  1. 👍🏼 Bryson talks about this a lot. Keeping the Y shape fixed until club is horizontal with the ground. I think it also helps hip rotation.

  2. Thank you, Peter. My friend is not doing it correctly and I am trying to help her maintain the Y in the backswing. This should help immensely 😁.

  3. Improving that initial stage of my backswing improved my swing as a whole , my ball striking and in turn my distance with my irons improved dramatically. I also noticed that when you get to the horizontal point in the correct position it makes it so easy to get in a good position at the top of your swing.

  4. Thank you Peter. This was needed. I think a lot of us struggle with this part of the swing.

  5. Great way to describe the Y , with cameras we should be able to help our selves fix a few bad habits. The key is to know what to look for any why in our own swings. I try to coil my legs before the takeaway and pull that sucker in side. I have been cross handed drill for a take away but that kind of teaches my arms to be too close together. I like the hands in front .

  6. Peter, I think something beneficial would be the sequel of this video being how to get to the top of the swing from there. Being American and playing baseball I have a hard time with keeping the club down the line at the top of the swing leading to me over compensating trying to get my swing back in the path and slicing. I’m getting lessons now from a coach but this is something I never noticed in your previous videos or ricks…

  7. Pete, you have my favorite swing. Very effortless and you smack that thang. You never seem to look as though you are swinging out of your shoes. I try to model my swing after yours.

  8. Nice and simple. love it! And it covers all the necessary stuff to avoid the usual pitfalls I did for years: over-rotation of the lead arm… Which lead to an overly laid flat swing with tons of compensation. Even more importantly, this drill should preserve the wrists angles and keep face angle strong and prevent the need for flipping to square up. Been there, done that. 😉

  9. question: after I learn to maintain the " Y " to a level position , and my club is on the correct path ( not too inside or outside ) and club face is matching my spine …should only then I begin to hinge my wrists ?….thanks

  10. 0:52 at p2 (shaft parallel to ground at takeaway) you want a bit of bend in the right arm👍 Can be dangerous if you try to keep it straight.

  11. Peter – I just used this new Y takeaway at the driving range and I hit it better than I have in years. I was taking it too far inside and was rolling the club as well. Awesome

  12. 👍 Working on something like this with my coach as well. He talks about a "pushing" sensation straight back away from the ball with my pinky and ring fingers on my top hand to start the swing.
