The COST of GOLF CLUBS is a PROBLEM

We are this week filming in the stunning Vilamoura, Portugal with Foremost Golf and are having a discussion on how much golf clubs are starting to cost and is it having an effect of playing the game of golf?

  1. Dan, to be honest I worry about the future of the game at amateur level, the pandemic caused a false jump in club membership which will fade in the next decade, one of the reasons will be the ridiculous costs if a set of clubs. If you use an example like the M2 driver which was released in 2016 it was just over £300 the latest Stealth 2 is over £500. An average iron now costs approximately £150 and a putter similar. This means with a bag and trolley you are nearer to 3k for a full set up. I accept that you can start with second hand gear but that just tempts you in to getting romanced by new stuff down the line. If we are not careful our game will once again end up the pastime of only those with money. I accept this may take years but it is a worrying trend.

  2. Dan having started fishing again recently
Rods are now all carbon etc
£500 has kitted me out with 2 rods ,reels etc —— the full kit
I can’t understand why golfers put up with being ripped off !!!

  3. Thanks for the wrap up info on the Wilson. I’ll definitely research it if it is affordable

  4. As a septuagenarian struggling to balance the escalating cost of living with my fixed pension income there is no way that I can justify spending £500+ on a new driver or £1500 on shiny new Irons. The yearly or 2 year cycle of releasing new clubs is ridiculous particularly when there is virtually no improvement in performance. It would make far more sense for the Golf industry to follow the automotive industry and move to longer product cycles with the occasional styling update and thus spare us from the yearly Marketing Bullshit that the likes of TM & Callaway subject their customers to.

  5. I just bought a stealth original after having the sim original for two years. I always buy ex demos to cut the cost to around £250. No way I'm ever paying £600 for a driver especially when my golf fees for 6 days membership are already £700.

  6. Those people complaining about the prices of golf equipment are the people who are paying the ridiculous prices for it. If people didn't pay it the prices would have to come down. Also looking at the gains yr on Yr from new clubs it isn't worth upgrading for a extra couple of yrds

  7. I picked up the tsi 2 last year for £499 and 11months later just didn’t like it anymore didn’t feel like I got the most out of it sold it for a measly £130 and gone back to my old driver,I think new clubs coming out is a good thing however it’s so often you’ll never keep up with it not just in a financial sense but can you really get used to something quick if you only use it once or twice a week before the new one comes out

  8. Not watched this as yet so perhaps it’s deliberate but if it’s not, you need to change the vid thumbnail and spell it properly 🙂

  9. When I was a kid golf was out of the reach money wise for working class people , there wasn't no Internet, YouTube, extra , now Anyone can go get fitted free to find out what shaft and head combo I need , save for a couple of months and get a quality set of Secondhand golf clubs for a fraction of the price …
As for buying new Clubs , Pricing has gone through the roof , in my opinion Irons haven't improved dramatically over the last 10 years to justify upgrading from the irons I already have , But 8f money isn't a problem I would change my irons every four years IF I was fitted through the whole set that performed better than the clubs I have and most importantly got 5 mph more every iron … brilliant channel , love the Show 🏌️‍♂️⛳️👍

  10. No problem with new products being released regularly. The issue for me is the price of clubs including second hand stuff and green fees. All have just got ridiculous. It must be hurting pros as I bet their margins have not increased. Two of the main areas of fun in golf for me were buying clubs just to try out and playing nice golf courses. The prices now have taken a lot of fun out of golf for me; now left playing with the same clubs around mostly the same course.😢

  11. The new Wilson driver in American Golf retail £349(Tin) and £399(Carbon) excellent value!🏌🏼🏌🏻‍♂️ I’ll be giving it test, you never know🏌🏼

  12. Definitely prices are getting out of control. Especially with some of these brands releasing new clubs yearly. But that gives room for the Tacomas and Sub 70s of the world to carve a niche

  13. I find it bizarre that all the manufacturers have released at exactly the same time – surely that reduces your potential market share 🤷🏻‍♂️

We are actually better off spending £500 on lessons

  14. I honestly believe the 2nd hand golf market will go from strength to strength, sites such as golf clubs for cash offer excellent quality gear at all great prices points, from all the major brands for a lot less than you would pay anywhere else, I would be tempted to say go get fit then buy online for last years models and save yourself a fortune

  15. There's also an issue of promotion of buying new clubs with the idea of custom fitment. Let's be honest most of us are simply not consistent enough to benefit from having a custom set of clubs. Just buy used irons and have them bent. Most modern woods can also be adjusted for loft and lie. I only advocate for refreshing your wedges as often as you can afford just to have consistent greens de control of your spin

  16. As I’ve said before, I’m not good enough to justify £600 for a driver. £400 or so for my Cobra was about the extent of what I was happy to pay. And now that I need to replace that (again) I’ll be going to sub70 who I think can still do a good driver for me for £300. And that will also match my irons from them. Rightly or wrongly, I associate the more expensive clubs with an ability to do them justice.

  17. Good show chaps. I don't think companies releasing new equipment often is a bad thing, with all the r&d that goes into it there will be some improvements so like you said people with equipment that 3-4 years old will see the benefits. I just think the cost is ridiculous. £599 for a driver is crazy. But all the time there are people willing to pay it they will charge it. I can't justify paying that much, I'll stick to the second hand market. Looking forward to a course vlog next week lads
