Hi I’m Matt Lockey, welcome to my Coach Lockey YouTube Channel. This YouTube channel is designed to help you play better golf, and to help you enjoy your golf more!
I specialise in golf course vlogs, golf challenges, golf tips, golf lessons, golf club reviews and the odd golf club unboxing. So pretty much everything golf!
I want to help you play better golf by providing coaching videos on all topics about golf. How to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
As well as helping you produce the best long game you can have, I will help you lower your scores by chipping better, stopping duff and thin chips, pitching the ball closer and creating backspin like the tour pros. Finally, I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts too!
If you enjoy the channel make sure you hit subscribe and also tap the notification bell so that you are always notified when I release a new video.

Excellent video. The pointer on the club face worked very well in explaining this. I actually use these concepts when I’m trying to work the ball. If I’m trying to hit a big slinger, I’ll lay the club down more(flatter swing). Higher handle, closer to the ball makes it easier to hit a cut. Maybe you can teach Mark some of this knowledge. lol You guys are among my top YouTube golf channels, for sure. Keep it up!
The video begs the chicken or the egg question, eh? I've been fitted a couple of times and it always ends with a final lie angle adjustment. Not a big box store fitting either. Why would they end with a lie angle adjustment and then if someone has been compensating for lie angle, how does the fitter know in a 1 hour session that it's lie angle, and not the swing / shaft / swing weight / etc. FYI, I agree on lie angle issues and that while not a shaft-oid, changing a shaft with the same head can affect lie angle given that they bend differently and will deliver the head diff w/ the same swing. Takes some pretty good fitters w/ a lot of experience to catch this sort of thing, I'd think. Thoughts?
New shoes? What shoes are those?
Is the explanation of the rod bit the wrong way around?
I get all my irons lie adjusted…It really makes a difference…
I have 2 degree flat as shortie,
Think you've got your flat and upright mixed around at 2:45 or the pic at 0:38 is wrong.
Think it's the other way round 🤔 flat goes left upright goes right
Start direction!
Nice explanation, could you do one with your driver to so we can see results from GCquad, I dont think alot people realise changing the loft of your driver also changes the lie angle, would be good to see how much difference to ball flight(left/right/height) it will give.
So at the start you explain upright and flat regarding angle of shaft… then the rest of the video you use the angle of the head… without saying so.. bit confusing to some me thinks, better off saying toe up/ toe down from the start, anyway cheers for posting 👊👊
Cub scout? Old timers in the US will understand…. Great video and explanation
Very good info
What a bloody eye opener! Thanks chief 👍
Uncanny timing! Went into my local shop today as I have a set of Ping G425 irons fit for me with a green dot (2 degrees upright) and as my swing has changed since getting them, the ball has started going left, they are too upright for me now, and will have to ship them back to Ping to have the pie angle changed with their big hammer!
From behind the ball you say it's flat but the shaft looks more upright handle higher…and vice versa you say it's now upright and the handle is clearly lower but face pointing left…am I confused
Is lifting shaft up not making it upright ?
Interesting video… also looking fresh coach
What would you suggest for someone who is having lessons? My miss is left going left and the lessons are trying to iron that out but a fitter suggested flattening my lie angle. Would that over do it with the swing changes?
Great to see & hear one of your videos with out crossfield in the background
Upright is going left, flat will tend to go right. My set is 2 flat and I can still seem to work the ball when needed , by the way nice win for you and Pete cheers 😁
Good stuff. Unfortunately I found this out too late. In 2019 I was fitted 2 degrees upright in new pxg irons because my shots were all toe down. Problem is I tended to miss left already and after receiving my new clubs the left shots were much worse. I played these clubs in competition for 3 years… yeah. So I just got mizuno 223s in standard lie and am working on correcting my toe down strikes in other ways. Wish me luck
Hello everyone,
So at the start of the video I explain upright and flat regarding angle of shaft… then the rest of the video I use the angle of the head… without saying so.. bit confusing and I’m sorry.
Would of been better off saying toe up/toe down from the start.
I will learn and improve. I hope this still helps lots of golfers.
Love Coach
I was fitted two degrees flat and 1/2 inch shorter by AG. It all makes sense now as I never see much of the left side of the fairway.
Great subject. But a Bit confused. You seem to be saying the flat is with the hands high…isn’t that upright??
LOL, if I hit a flat lie club my ball goes LEFT, and when I hit an upright lie I go RIGHT, have had 3 PING iron fittings in my life and this was MY pattern!
The flat lie in my hands closes the face making my ball go left, and the Upright lie opens the face making the ball go right.
Go fitting☝🏻
For me: 1/2" longer and 1° flat
with the right shaft and grip
Nice little draw🥰
