Golf Iron Category Differences For Average Swing Speeds

In today’s video, A.J. is with Trent Maxwell and they will be showcasing the differences between game improvement irons, player distance irons, and blades. Since Trent is closer to an average swing speed, we wanted to show that no matter swing speed, players can play any iron type. If you want more forgiveness and to hit it higher and farther, you can play the Mizuno High Launch. If you want more distance and a penetrating ball flight, you can play the distance irons. If you want the best look and feel, you can play the blades.

  1. That is about my swing speed so the comparison was very interesting. I could play the 221s, but that HL iron is very impressive, difference in spin between it and 221 is probably all due to static loft difference between the 2 clubs – but with HL peak height and descent angle will give a lot of stopping power.

Hot Metal seems to be the worst of the 4 clubs – very low loft and too low spin for me.

  2. Exceptional video! Very informative. So great to see an illustration at a clubhead speed that resembles the masses instead of the usual Youtube video with the guy swinging a 7 iron at 95 mph, which represents less than 2% of all golfers. Thank you for sharing.

  3. I wouldn't have thought that the conclusion being that it would come down between a blade and a SGI club as that seems so counter-intuitive. But as someone who got fitted into the HM 921 last March at WGC, it also comes down to the golfer. For instance for me and my swing, on the 921's, I was getting 5800 spin, 51* landing angle with 87 MPH club speed and a very different dynamic loft of 30* as I tend to hit up on my irons as I have an attack angle of 1.7. Very different from the above test.
