Most GOLFERS make this mistake when BUYING WEDGES!…

Rob a 21 handicap is carrying 5 wedges, all gapped at 4* loft, however, does a high handicap golfer need this many wedges?

In today’s video were looking at loft gapping a wedge set! What wedge lofts should you buy? Find out how we determine what lofts would be best for Rob based on distance gapping!

  1. Well done gaz it can be very confusing for golfers with wedges but like you say it's distances 🏌‍♂️😀👍

  2. Good vid Gaz. Just joined a club with trackman so I’ll be testing my wedges again. Won’t be buying any new ones though, the missus will kill me!!

  3. Get rid of the 60 too. Just not necessary at that level. Use the pw and gw for approach shots. The 56° has more than enough loft for bunker play and any situation around the green for a player of that level. The wedge gap test and wedge distance matrixs are all well and good for an elite golfer but at this level, and I'm in that bracket myself so I'm not having on Rob just aren't needed.

  4. Interesting. I have now got a 54 callaway wedge and trading in the 52 and 56. Ha ha. Now I can blame you!! Lol

  5. Great video Gaz , I found 54 degree wedge works much better for me with the stronger lofted irons I have , I have p g 54 58 , good gapping between them and as you said less clubs to learn 👍🏻

  6. Callaway also do a Mac daddy cb wedge in 54 with a cavity back and has the full face grooves

  7. He obviously watches that other Yorkshire geezer. Get rid of the 60. 56, Gap & PW is all that's needed at that level and learn to use em proper.

  8. IMO high handicappers shouldn't be using a lob wedge. It takes skill to use this club and it's a safer play for the ++hcp'er to get the ball on the ground and rolling towards their target vs trying to fly it 80% to their target – learn the bump and run then move on to flop and stop! I think it's easier for the ++hcp'er to learn half swing wedge shots to control distance. Using this train of thought you then only need a pitching wedge using full swings (80-100YDS) half swings (40-60 YDS that includes run out – obviously distances will vary per player) and chips around the green. Learn to use the sand wedge for bunkers (full/half swings) and very short shots that have to be elevated quickly ie. over water, then all you have to do is watch the strokes fall off because of smarter play from actually learning to better use the tools in your bag. The 7 iron bump and run is going to be a safer play than a lob or sand wedge from the same distance if there's no trouble between you and the green and the pin further back ⛳

  9. Thanks Gaz. I would have liked you to talk about bounce as well because that surely will affect club choice. I have a number of wedges, but I'm never sure if I have too much or too little bounce.

  10. Agreed Gaz. 15 yards is perfect gapping. I carry 50, 56, 62 which are consecutively quarter inch shorter than each other to get that gapping.
62 is my get out of jail card. Stupid deep bunkers at one of my clubs and short sides galore since a lot of the greens are very narrow in the middle.

  11. Excellent video Gaz. Most high handicappers should remove the 'which wedge' part of the equation and focus more on 'how should I play this shot with my wedge' Choose fewer wedges and imagine some different shots with those you have. A gap wedge and a sand wedge should get you around the course. I occasionally go out for a round with a Driver, 7 iron, wedge, and putter.

  12. Great video Gary would love for you to help me get this info never been on a GCQUAD ever no idea of my yardages between clubs and golf ranges are not accurate enough. Could call and see you cheers. Garry.

  13. Agree – too many wedges is confusing for mid to high handicappers (such as me!). I use a 52 & 56 for chipping – loving them! Also have a PW in the bag – don’t use it much at all

  14. I carry 4 wedges,PW, 52, 56 & 60, all have about 15 yard distance difference. My 56 is my go to club from about 60 yards in and around the green although a full 56 goes about 85 yards, 60 is there for more spin for tight pins and stopping and the 52 from about 100 yards. I have tried different wedges but for me this has been the best combo for quite some time, just upgraded to Kirkland wedges as well and can highly recommend them 👍

  15. It took me 3 years and 4 fittings to settle on the wedge lofts, bounces and grinds I have now and I love it now. PW is 45 degrees, iron set gap wedge is 50, then my vokeys are 55-10 S grind and 60-8 M grind with a slightly heavier shaft than my iron set. When I'm swinging well there's usually a 12-13 yard gap between all 4 of them. Took a lot of testing and tinkering, but I'm thrilled with the end result.
