  1. Great tip, I more often than not fail to swing through, so land up taking a 9 iron for a bump & run as find it easier.

  2. The drawback to Alex's advice here is that more perfection in swing is required, to avoid hitting the chip thin, which would make the ball run over the back edge of the green. Alex is talking about the "bounce" portion of the golf club. Letting the bounce brush the ground, instead of the blade edge, does reduce the risk of the blade digging into the ground and getting caught stuck. But using the bounce this way raises the height of the blade edge higher off the ground, thus risking a thin hit. For some players this is a worthwhile trade-off, but for others maybe an unwise trade-off. If you want to use the bounce, you can reduce the thin risk by using Callaway's 'MAX' golf balls. The MAX balls are slightly larger (though are same weight). The MAX's larger size raises the equator of the ball higher off the ground, which reduces the risk of hitting thin. MAX balls are entirely legal.

  3. Seems to be valuable advice. When it stops raining heavily I will give it a try. Thank you Alex.

  4. Hi Alex, this looks like a great tip.. I have a question though.. I play 14deg of bounce on my 56 $ 60 deg wedges, am I going to introduce a much higher chance of blading these shots?

  5. Great tip especially as the faithful bump and run is much less effective in the wet with long grass on fairways

  6. I've never been able to chip consistently with a 54 or 56 degree wedge. Lean the handle too far forward, the leading edge of the club digs in. Lean it too far back, the bounce hits the turf and the leading edge blades the ball. Whenever possible I chip with an 8-iron, or P-W if there's limited green to work with. A long green, maybe a 6-iron.

  7. Thanks for another great video. I once asked a real good chipper his practice swing focus thought, and his reply: the sound of the club "brushing" the ground. That has since become my focus thought.

  8. Please, please let us know which club you are using when giving advice – especially chipping around the green lessons.

  9. Great tip. Do you still play the ball off your back foot and keep most of your weight on your front foot.

  10. Hey Alex, we met at Mottramhall (through Dave and Maria)

    Great video!
This is exactly what Melodie has been working on for sometime now, a slightly open face is an absolute confidence booster for shots around the green.

    I hope your well mate

  11. i been using a chipper for 50 bucks for a few weeks now, makes the game so much more fun not having to worry about these unfun shots. hate chipping.

  12. Who else doesn't know wtf he's talking about. I feel like you need to explain better. What exactly r u saying. If some one knows please explain to me. I say coming steeper works like Phil mickelsons video hinge and hold.

  13. Please comment re a bare lie. Opening the club face will raise the leading edge – and, we know the result from that!!

  14. Hitting that far from the green are you hitting a chip or a pitch? I like the little open face idea but sure I. could use it while chipping. Just looking for a clearer understanding.

  15. Wow… i guess don't chip, pitch every shot…

    You helped no one.

Instead kids. If you fat your chips, move it to the front of your stance. Off front foot.

Slide your balance forward and back over stationary feet. Get the feel of weight forward on your lead foot, but shoulders even. Use a mirror, it helps.

Freeze your hips and rotate your shoulders back and through. Chip till it feels comfortable.

  16. HI Alex .
