The difference this change has made to my golf swing is absolutely huge! I’ve changed how far I stand to the golf ball by a small amount and the difference is huge! I am striking the golf ball so much better, striking the golf ball longer, striking the golf ball like the pros and so much further with both irons and driver!
This drill has worked for all my clients no matter their age or ability! So many of my clients ask How Close Should You Stand to the Golf Ball? Is there a correct distance you should stand to the golf ball? how close to stand to driver? how close should I stand to the golf ball with driver? This video addresses these questions.
Golfers often have too much tension which means they often stand too close to the golf ball or too far away. Golfers, whether that be senior golfer, amateur golfer or professional golfer don’t fully understand whether they are too close or too far from the golf ball.
I’ve now changed how far i stand from the golf swing. This is simple golf instruction. A lot of golfers tend to ask questions like how to hit driver straight, this can be beginner golf tips or professional, but knowing how close to stand to the golf ball is so important.
This will cover, how to stop slicing the golf all, golf grips hand position, how to hit your driver straight, hit a driver for beginners, golf driver drills, golf driver tips, golf swing drills, golf grip replacement, hit your driver further, golf set up,how far to stand from golf ball.

5 iron is my longest Great video as always , I know I need to pay more attention to my set up and distance from the ball before I swing away
6 iron is my longest iron. Might be 7 iron soon. Thinking of switching to a 6 hybrid
4i is my longest iron but I honestly want a 2 iron at some point
Longest iron is a 3I (Titleist 718 AP3). I do have a 5W just in case I'm not hitting my iron well but I have improved drastically within the last year with long irons.
Great video- one of your best!
Great. Love the Schuffle.
This is a simple but very helpful video that I think a lot of people can benefit from. I’ve definitely had trouble consistently getting the correct distance from the ball every time.
4 iron but only off a tee usually
6 iron is the longest in my bag.
Extra length 2 iron. For those real low shots needed sometimes and into wind. Sometimes do choke down.
Longest is a 7 iron. My next set will not have a 5 and 6 hybrid! I'm 6ft 5 in and swing a 44 inch driver.
4 iron
Heard the back crack on the last swing lol thanks for the info
I still have and use a 3 and 4 Iron, it depends on what type of course I'm playing.
Is it a links or open course or is it a narrow tree-lined course!
is it a course with a thicker secondary rough, or one with multiple hazards in the fairway!
Thus, I choose what clubs I take to that course accordingly!
My 3 Iron comes in pretty handy when I'm in the trees and I need a punch out shot to the green 80 yards away. The ball stays low and runs just like I hit a 7 or 8 iron for a bump and run shot from the fairway.
The same situations play out for my fairway woods and hybrids as well… Do I take and play a 3-5-7 wood, or do I take a 3-4 Hybrid to replace the fairway woods!
I try to use the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) Principle!
Besides, how many clubs do we REALLY Need in our bags???
Most of us started out with a beginners set (I played a set of Northwestern Clubs), consisting of Driver, 3-W, 3,5,7, and 9 iron and a putter. That's seven clubs and we managed to play and learn the game!!!
Excellent video and seems you’re timely in your lessons. I’ve been doing better with consistency iron strikes and at times as you know things go a bit awry. I like the tips on setting up for the distance with each club and the driver tip on being shorter. I will definitely check my distances when I setup to address the bal to see how I usually do with your tips. My longest iron is a 4. Tks
Hi Alex! My longest iron is currently a four (4) iron in my bag. My current set did not come with a three (3) iron!
Hey mate , I just started playing golf, and always never knew were to stand. Ur video was pin point. I practiced my swing like you showed in the video, and my swing has changed dramatically, so good. Thanks 😁
This is my biggest preshot thought all the time. I never know how far I should be, but I'll definitely be doing this from here on out.
5
Thanks! Very helpful. I have been noticing a more often than not out towards the toe.
PXG 0311 P 2 iron is the longest.
I got fitted this summer and they wouldn’t sell me anything longer than a 5 iron.
My longest iron is a 5 Keep up the good work Love the channel
I have a 3 iron and I hit it better than my 4 and 5…somehow 🤔
When I stand closer to the ball 98% of my shots are more pure, but unfortunately I will throw a shank or 2 in there which scares me off from standing so close
I have a cougar 3 iron that I keep in my bag for when I want to take a drive to shank city. It’s a blade and probably three times older than I am.
I always choked up on my driver, I’m only 5’8” , should look into getting it cut or give it a go myself
It's 5 iron.
Manufacturers sell drivers with longer shafts as distance is what the public wants. I still have the Taylormade Mini Burner driver with a shaft slightly longer than a 3 Wood, a 230cc ( I think) head and hit it 238yds. Not far but I am 76. Tour pros are usually 6 foot plus tall so even a 46" shaft looks small in their hands (eg Dustin Johnson). I believe most amateurs would be better off with a 3 Wood, 43" shaft and certainly more accurate. Great video.
Alex, very helpful video. We now know how to get the right distance from the ball at the range but you can't do the same on the course. I do as you demonstrate but to be able to get it right on the course I then rest the club on my lead leg so I have a reference for each club for what ever club I'm using. Cheers
3iron and sometimes a 1 iron
Longest is 5 iron, could never really use my old 3 and 4 irons.
Love this advice. 2 weeks ago I took my old Mizuno driver to my bench saw and took over 2” off it. I then paid £8 for a new cheap grip to be fitted. The result showed no loss of distance but a much more condensed “V” hitting area. Also I used the old foot spray and noted the higher concentration of centre hits. I now have a 3 wood with a hybrid length shaft which has increased my 3 wood distance by over 20 yards with a very tight “V”.
A custom club maker I visited some time ago told me that Tiger used a 43” driver the first time he won The Masters.
Such a great point – and easy fix. Good video Alex, Mike
I´ll try this. Looks sensible.
will this be affected by the persons height? i am short at 5ft6 and don't have fitted clubs… should i hold the club lower down slightly
4i
one of the reasons i continue to play one length
Favourite club in my bag – my 4 iron. Go figure….Sometimes I put a 3 iron in there and still get very acceptable results.
