How the wrong LIE ANGLE in your golf clubs can explain your bad shots

The importance of using the correct lie angle in your golf clubs

Lie

In this golf tips video we will review why it is so important that the golf clubs you use have the correct lie angles. The lie is the angle formed by the ground and the shaft of the golf clubs. The higher the lie angle, the more upright the golf club is and likewise, the lower the lie the flatter the golf club.

In an ideal situation when you take your address position the sole of the golf club should rest flat on the ground. If when you adopt your setup position the toe of the club lifts from the ground then it is likely that your clubs are too upright for you. Hitting golf shots with clubs that are too upright will make the ball tend to go to the left, regardless of what your swing looks like. Hitting golf shots with clubs that are too flat – where the heel of the club is off the ground – will make the ball tend to go to the right.

Making sure you are using clubs with the correct lie can be done rather easily through the help of impact decals. These auto adhesive stickers are put on the sole of the club before you execute a golf swing off of a hard plastic flat board. Where the club makes contact with the board will leave an impression on the tape. This will tell you if you strike the ground towards the center, the toe or the heel of the clubhead.
