How to choose the correct BOUNCE when you buy wedges – Golf Equipment Tips

Understanding bounce in your golf clubs and how picking the right bounce can help you hit better wedge shots.

Bounce

In this golf tips video we will review what the bounce of a golf club is. We examine how bounce is calculated in degrees, which corresponds to the degree the leading edge of the club is lifted up when the trailing edge of the club sits on the ground.

We discuss how a high bounce club such as a sand wedge will help the club literally bounce off the ground and how that can be useful in the sand when playing bunker shots or when playing in soft fairways. We cover how a low bounce club will tend to dig into the ground rather than bounce off of it, which can be useful in firmer conditions.

We briefly cover the grind of a golf club, which corresponds to the pattern used on the sole of the golf club. Different grinds cater to different types of golf swings and turf conditions. Golf club manufacturers such as Titleist (Vokey) and Callaway (Mack Daddy) will offer several different grinds for their clubs. Other manufacturers such as Taylormade, Cleveland (RTX), Mizuno and Cobra will likewise claim their grind patterns will help you hit better golf shots.
