How To Gap Your Golf Bag

Picking a new driver and irons is generally fairly simple. But what clubs should you put in play in that awkward gap in the middle?

I headed down to the Titleist Performance Centre at Woburn to dial in the gap in my golf bag and find out how to gap your golf bag correctly.

  1. thanks for another enjoyable Honest video Hannah, think we all have few clubs in the bag that do the same distance, think I need a gapping session, & man you can hit that 4 iron well, hope you have great weekend

  2. Very interesting. Your swing speed and carry numbers are really close to mine (you’re a much better golfer though!) and I struggle with gapping the top of my bag. 6 and 5 iron difference is negligible and I have a big gap from 5 iron to 5 hybrid.
Could easily change the 5 iron (traditional loft of 27 degrees) and put in a stronger lofted 5 like a Hot Metal type club. 👍🏻

  3. As I never got on with a driver or hybrids etc,now have a 15 degree,18 and 21 degree utility irons instead and significantly lowered my score. A little less in distance about 220 with 15 degree but find also after using the long irons the shorter irons seem easier to use. It's of course personal as is all in golf. Good video.

  4. Very cool Hannah. So the top of your bag now is driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, then going into 4 iron? you essentially switched 3&4 hybrids for a 5 wood and 4 iron, is that correct?

  5. Similar situation for my bag! My 3 & 4 hybrid only had a few yards difference. I got fit for another 3 hybrid to fill the gap between the 5 iron and 5 wood

  6. My 6 iron goes 150m and then 10m up or down with each club. The tricky thing is allowing for wind and elevation changes!

  7. I've just been fitted for a full set and there will be a gap between 3 wood and 6 iron. I think the pro will be going for a 7 wood. I don't like hybrids….

  8. I've got a 28, 25,22, and 18 degrees loft in my hybrids, they have replaced all my long irons for the last 3 years, I carry an 8,9, pitching and gap wedge, plus my favorite 56 degrees cbx zip groove wedge, this has gapped my clubs perfectly and gotten rid of the hard to hit long irons.great video hanna!⛳⛳⛳⛳⛳⛳⛳⛳⛳⛳

  9. What about trajectory? I have just changed my irons and have15 yard gapping now with my irons from LW to 5i and am working on the new choices. But with the old set, I was

    6i – 155-165
    5i – 160-170 low, running landing
    4H 175-185 mid. Slight fade
    7w – 180 -190 high, soft faded landing

For those shallow, elevated greens, the extra height on the 7w helps – even thought there was quite a lot of overlap, they were different enough to carry. The 4H was also the clear choice under trees, not the 7w.

But having just changed to 921 HMs, where I am getting

6i 155-160 carry run out +10 firm. high & straight
    5i 170-180 carry, run +10. mid-high, v small fade

The 5i is now hitting elevated fronts where the hybrid was, and is longer on the flat – the 4H is essentially redundant, and I have a clear overlap. I've got a 4i on order to see how that will work for a lower one – I would expect all hybrid options to be higher..

  10. I have regular flex shafts. I was at my local driving range and was not hitting the ball vary far with my driver. When I tried to speed up my down swing I lost control. Do I have to change my shafts or live with the length that I am driving now? Obviously, changing shafts is going to be very expensive.

  11. Good video Hannah . I struggled a bit with hybrids and ended up going 5 wood 7 wood . Been a great change for me
