Learn the rules and tactics of greensome, the golf format that is often used in mixed golf events.
In this video we review how to play the greensome golf format. We discuss how greensome is essentially foursome (alternate shot) but with the difference that both golfers in the team hit a tee shot. Indeed, after hitting their tee shots, both members of the team agree on which ball position is best and the teammate that did not hit the shot will hit the ball next. Teammates then alternate hitting that one ball until it is holed. The two-person team with the lowest total score wins the event if competing against the rest of the field. In a match play environment then the team with the most holes won wins the match.
We also discuss tactics and the strategy involved in greensome. Let’s say both golfers hit their drives at about the same distance, it could then be smart to let the better golfer hit the second shot, and so on.
Greensome is often used for mixed events where a male golfer will be paired with a female golfer. Or similarly where teams are formed with combinations of older and junior golfers, such as a father and son tournament.
