BIGGEST IRONS OF 2022 – Mizuno Pro 225 VS Cobra Forged Tec

#mizunopro #225 #cobra

I compare the Mizuno Pro 225 Iron against the new Cobra Forged Tec Iron of 2022, two hollow forged golf irons forgiving forgiveness, great looks, feel and distance. These golf clubs are very popular in the golf market but there is a difference in the price tag! I test and provide my personal feedback on the performance of these golf clubs.

  1. Great chat Michael. It seems you test the exact clubs that interest me. I am playing 921 forged after mp52s and I feel like I have lost feel from the mp52s. These two irons are interesting to me. Your feel comments are helpful. Great video!

  2. I just ordered the 223’s, I liked the feel of them better then the 225’s. Love the feel of the Mizuno’s, it’s my first set of Mizuno’s.

  3. i will say, as much as i loved the look of the cobra mim tour, they were the shortest by far clubs ive ever owned….i even tried delofting. im a 1.3 cap right now and hit my mini driver 43" about 280 for comparison. wondering if these helped the distance..

  4. Can’t comment on Cobras but my gamers for last 2 months have been the Miz 225’s. 3 handicap and if i had one complaint would be how far they go. Took
a solid moth to get used to how far these irons travel on a good strike. Very good feeling iron. The pw and 9 iron has a thinner top line than lower irons which really look good to me. Previously played AP2’s and these are a solid club and half longer. Took awhile to get used to hitting a 7 iron 200 yds

  5. Thanks Michael…great review. Both of these irons are on my short list and your review will help me decide. I also have the PXG 0211 XCOR2s on my list. Need to hit all three. I'm not a big fan of a thick top line or excessive offset — so I'll need to compare the specs. Thanks again.

  6. The only thing I don’t like about these hollow irons is all the off set they put on them I mean they don’t even try and hide it some

  7. Thanks Michael, any chance of comparing Wilson d9 forged against mizuno 225 and cobra forged tec?

  8. I look at every hollow body iron on the market and ended up with Gen5 0311T which surprised me not a big fan of PXG purely came down to Feel/Sound if I had to rated the Top 5 off of Feel/Sound IMHO it would be
    1. Gen5
    2. Pro 225
    3. P790
    4. Forged Tec
    5. Rogue ST Pro

  9. You said that this might appeal to a golfer coming from game improvement irons. I think the other market (and one that I am in) is better golfers accepting their limitations with traditional blades. I play off 3, and I moved from ping s55s to the Mizuno HMBs a couple of years ago. The look, feel and performance brings joy every time I use them, and I don’t get punished nearly as much on an off day. When these wear out, I’ll stick within this class of iron, with some seriously great looking and high performing kit coming from a lot of manufacturers.

  10. Good comparison. Your descent angle with the forged Tec is a little concerning. Normally you are well above 45 degrees and given your swing speed I think some slower swingers may struggle with this iron. I tried the forged Tec X and while they were good the launch and spin were just too low.
I tried the 225s as well but found the long irons (4-6) to not be as forgiving as I’d like them to be although the rest of the set was excellent.
Ultimately I went with the i525s. Great launch and spin numbers and distance as well even though the lofts were slightly weaker (probably due to the improved launch and spin).

  11. Thank you for the comparison. One thing that is a little frustrating with these reviews is they do not show the avg. golfers swing speed and misses. Really difficult to know how to relate.

  12. Price of the Cobras can get very steep on the upcharges Michael. By the time I would have to pay for my grips I use and the Project X shafts I prefer then they are more comparable. Mizuno don't up charge for these. I think that is very important to highlight.

  13. I recently bought new irons. These were 2 of my final 3 sets, after trying virtually everything in this category. I ended up getting the Wilson D9 Forged, 2nd for me was the Cobra, and 3rd was the Mizuno, although truly anyone of the 3 could have been satisfactory. The Wilson felt as soft as the Mizuno, and was as long as the Cobra, but had a tighter dispersion. So, with a Recoil ESX 460 R shaft, that's what this 72 year old chose. Thanks! I enjoy your comparisons!

  14. I've got both sets of these irons. The Mizunos win going away. The Cobras just sit in the closet. Prefer the look, sound, feel, and on course results the 225s give me.

  15. I’ve hit them all in the category. Wilson D9 Forged was my choice. Better feel and consistent.

  16. Been playing with the 225 the last few months. What a package. I can swing it easy and the ball just goes but I know I can step on one to get more out of it if necessary. The feel is outstanding and looks absolutely amazing. While I recommend a proper fitting, you can find a set of Mizuno’s on the used market for a decent savings.

  17. Give me the Wilson D9 Forged all day!! I even liked the D7 Forged more than the D9 Forged. Price, feel, performance…Trifecta!!

  18. Michael do you believe the Wilson Staff D9 Forged irons could stand up to these two clubs? One of my golf buddies bought a set of the Wilson D9 Forged and he says they have change his game. He loves them. I know you love your Wilson irons and I believe you recently did a review of the D9 Forged irons. I enjoy the head to head test videos. Great job!

  19. Pro 225s are beautiful but didn't perform best for me. I think the hollow body construction has serious trade-offs compared to a traditional cavity back. Waiting on the JPX 923 Forged.
