Golf Tee vs No Golf Tee | Wedge, Iron and Hybrid

Do you use a golf tee on every tee shot, including par 3s? This Golf Tee vs No Golf Tee test uses Trackman to analyze whether golfers should tee the ball up on every hole.

For this test, 2nd Swing master fitter Thomas Campbell hits a series of shots with a wedge, 7-iron, and hybrid using a golf tee vs no golf tee. With the help of Trackman, Thomas and Drew analyze the performance to see if golfers should make sure they use a golf tee on every tee shot.

Do you use a golf tee for every tee shot? Let us know in the comments!

  1. 2 questions. 1. How high should you tee it up for irons and wedges and 2. Do you change ball position at all for tee vs no tee? Thank you.

  2. Easy adjustment for tee shots with a tee, if it messes with you mentally, is to just grip up 1/8th of an inch. Then when you hit off the turf, you can grip regularly for a perfect height adjustment.

  3. I’ve noticed I lose yardage on par threes when I tee an iron. Which probably means I’m hitting off the top of the face (getting under it), getting too much height…

  4. Interesting that all the Tee groupings are more left. When I look at my proximity charts, you can see the exact same thing. And it's part of why I don't use a tee sometimes on par 3s.

  5. I feel its more down to personal preference. Of course Thomas is going to hit shots of the tee better because he's more comfortable with that. The results would probably be flipped if another golfer of the same skill level who swore by not using a tee did the same test.
