How To Fill The 14th Spot In Your Bag!!!

In golf, you’re allowed to have 14 clubs in your bag at any time. But some golfers only carry 12 or 13, leaving spaces in the bag to be filled. In this video, Dan Parker talks you through 7 suggestions of what you can do to fill the 14th spot in your bag. Even if you already have 14 clubs in your bag, Dan’s suggestions will help you think about the way you set up your bag

  1. I only carry 10 clubs. I don't like the idea of lugging around extra ones that I don't need.

  2. I currently have 11 clubs in my bag (driver, 2 & 4 hybrid, 6-9, PW, SW, LW and putter. I have slowly removed my 3, 4 and 5 irons as i is getting harder to hit them consistently. Of all the suggestions here, I would probably consider the other handed club. The others are doubtful for me

  3. Love the ideas. One should be able to drop a 7W on a dime, stopping the ball on even the smallest greens, whereas a 4I or 4H would keep rolling. Also using one club of the opposite hand is not a bad idea.

  4. I have all of them except a chipping and lefthand club, but I do chip with a hybrid that looks and acts like a chipper

  5. I prefer to carry and so due to weight I only carry 11 clubs. However if a big comp then I get the trolley out and take 14 clubs – usually with additions such as wedges. I like the idea of a 7 wood though 👍

  6. 14 clubs you can use is vital👍. The rarity of needing to play a shot the other way around to me has to mean a wrong handed club would be a real waste compared to the benefit of another correctly handed club

  7. A few comments regarding your suggestions:
    1.) I DO carry a 4-wood (no 3 or 5 wood),
2.) A 7-wood (rather than 3-hybrid) can be a great choice for many golfers,
3.) No extra-high lofted wedges for me; 58* or 59* is absolutely the highest loft that works here,
4.) Most amateur golfers struggle mightily with high-lofted wedges.

  8. One more thing – whenever I walk and carry, which is on about 95% of my rounds, I limit myself to no more than 12 clubs. The first two clubs to be removed from my bag are 5-iron and 54* wedge (I can get by with just the PW from my set, plus 50* and 58* wedges). Sometimes, I also drop my hybrid, and just carry 11 clubs (driver, 4 & 7 woods, 6 through PW, + 50 & 58* wedges and putter).

  9. I carry a left hand 9 iron for shots like that or close to trees or Bushes well handy when needed on the rare occasions

  10. I think people focus on gapping too much vs flight. I keep a 5 iron and 4 hybrid in the bag which go exactly the same distance; but have completely different flights.

The hybrid gives a much higher and softer landing flight and the 5 iron gives a penetrating flight. I also find it easier to move the ball right to left with the iron and left to right with the hybrid. Gapping isn’t everything.

  11. If I need to use a chipper especially given with your example, I will use a7 or 8 iron. You can use the putting stroke and it works well, holed several shots throughout the past that way. I personally think the chipper is more of a gimmick club.

  12. My bag reflects some of your ideas
    1) I made a 4 Wood by adding a longer shaft ( 44 inches) to my 5 Wood and delofted to 17.5 degrees. It tends to draw at full length, but choking down reduces this shape.
    2) I have a 19 degree Single Length Hybrid that flies lower than a conventional hybrid= driving iron like shape. It also doubles as a chipper using a putting stroke ( 7 iron length)
    3) I use a 7 wood, which flies higher and stops quicker on a green, for most of my fairway shots.
    4) I carry two other hybrids instead of a 5 & 6 iron ( Cobra F7 at 23.5 and a TS2 at 29 degrees)
    5) My Arc Master putter (Gravity Golf) has a long shaft and can be used with either hand dexterity. Good for bumping a ball out from next to trees.

  13. I have 14 clubs in my bag, but I'm thinking about switching it up a little. The course I play most often doesn't really require a 3 wood, so I'm seriously considering using a driving hybrid (plus it's kind of an ego boost to be able to hit a club with the number 1 on it).

I also have a 64° wedge in my bag as well because I am a low spin player and somewhat frequently find myself in the situation that requires that much loft.

  14. I've always struggled with Woods, which is weird because I have more of a sweeping iron stroke where I very rarely leave a divot. So my bag looks like Driver, 2,3,4 driving irons, 5,6,7,8,9 irons, 45, 54, 58, 62, putter. I bought a chipper to see if it helped with keeping chips online, but I honestly do a better job with my 8i. Anyone want to buy a relatively new oddysey x-act tank chipper? Lol

  15. Good idea to add a left handed club!
Although I’ll probably get more benefit from something like a Utility iron. 👍🏼

  16. Ive been back and forth with my 5 iron and 5 hybrid. I can still hit then5 iron we
l but the hybrid just proves to be more verastile. Also replaced my 19 degree hybrid with a 5 wood. Found imwas hitting it too close to thensame distance of my 22 degree hybrid so the 5 wood give me a better gap in that slot.

  17. Which left-handed club would be your recommendation?
A club that is suitable for different situations would be the best.
    I would have thought about a 7 iron or a D wedge.

  18. How many strokes per round can you save putting an opposite dexterity club in your bag? This is the dumbest bit of advice I've ever heard! Anybody that believes this is a clown. In the 25 years I've been playing golf, I've had a situation in which I needed to hit an opposite handed shot maybe 5 times. What a JOKE!

  19. Put a 7w in the Bag last year. Dropped the 3hybrid. Also Play a strong 5w (16.5*) and 4&5 hybrids. Find the hybrids useful around the green as well as solid options between 180 & 200 yards.
