2022 TAKOMO IRON 101T REVIEW // An Affordable Players Distance Iron Packed With Technology

Today, Ian and Mikey dive into the all-new Iron 101T from Takomo.

The Iron 101T is a refined version of the original Iron 101 and is aimed at players who are looking for a more forgiving iron with a more compact head and a thinner topline.

The Finnish manufacturer wanted to make a players distance iron packed with tech and beautiful looks. Blending distance, workability, and style in one comprehensive package.

The new design is targeted at more experienced players looking for a short blade with a traditional look and feel.

  1. They look great. I know they make these for the price they do through economies of scale, so in the UK they're only available with a KBS I believe. Would be great if they could offer just a couple more shafts, even if it a £15/20 per club upgrade. Maybe a Dynamic Gold or a Modus

  2. Shaft and grip options is kind of limiting. You can order them heads only for a fair price though.

  3. For more options: If you go to “customize your order” under the add to cart button, you can see more shaft options. Including graphite, at least in the US. Along with lie/loft, length, grip size, etc.
I don’t work for them (although I want to!). I’m the one that sent you the web developer application Takomo!

  4. I love the DTC idea for clubs especially if you get your numbers from a fitting. I bought the Haywood “Signature” irons a few months ago, custom lie, custom shaft, etc, and they are AMAZING! Takomo was #2 on my list because they didn’t have as many shaft options. These TM P-790 style clubs play well!

Keep up the great work, guys! I love these reviews.

  5. Great information. So it sounds to me with the direct to consumer irons can be bought and then visit a fitter to fine tune them. So what is an average cost to custom fit 7 clubs? So we are looking at initial cost of 84.00 per club plus cost per club for fitting are able to keep the per club cost below 90 or 95 US dollars. If so that would be amazing. Now PXG offers more options to customize. You can customize lie angle and loft. Along with playing length at no additional cost and right now the 0211 DC are an unbelievable price of 79.00 US Dollars. I would love to see the Takomo 101 and PXG 0211 DC against one another or the Takomo 201 against the PXG 0211 XCOR2 which are 129.00 US dollars per club. Love the channel.

  6. Can't wait for the DTC head to head comparisons. Why spend $1200 when you can spend $750 for about the same performance?
    Great job guys! And thanks!

  7. Love the showing of the changes of the fitting process making the irons even more efficient. Like this a lot.

  8. Would be great if you guys added pics/video of the address position of the clubs and perhaps one step further, a reference point example from the big OEMs in the same category (e.g. say T100S vs. 101T setup position). Cheers.

  9. I've told this to so many people I've met on the range, the single greatest money I've ever spent in Golf are my gapping sessions, with loft and lie adjustments, at TXG – nothing even comes close. All I see when I go to the range and sometimes help golfers are lie angles on their clubs that are almost never appropriate. When I show them my fitted lie-angles, and the flight it produces, and then hit their clubs, and they see the difference, they often can't believe it.

  10. excellent review…….. definitely will someday come and get a set built by you guys – cheers!

  11. Thank you Ian & Mikey. If we've learned anything from the past, it's that we need to increase our bandwidth for the coming days… 😂

  12. On this day, I finally found out how to pronounce Mikey's last name! Love the reviews of the Takomos.

  13. How easy/difficult were the irons to bend? Such an incredible difference in flight after the bending – would be VERY interested in a loft/lie session with aocal fitter if these were easy to bend. So cool!

  14. Great and informative video.
Would you just tweak the shortest and longest irons, or would you work through the whole set ??

  15. hopefully you can get your hands on some of the new 301 release would love to see a review of that, might be my next set

  16. I'm a mid-high handicapper, typically shooting mid 90s but my ball striking is improving a lot and is probably one of the best parts of my game. Can usually flush a 7i 160 yards.

Would it be a bad idea to look at a players iron like the 101T to future proof? I'm thinking of getting the set, then getting fit to adjust loft and lies, but don't want to wish I got the 101 instead.

  17. Great looking clubs at a reasonable price point. Plus I learned I probably need my lie angles adjusted. Great content as always from TXG!!!!

  18. Really appreciate you continuing to showcase these dtc clubs gents. Well done again!

Will you be reviewing True Temper AMT shafts any time soon or have you done them and I’ve managed to miss it? 🤔😁
