TOUGH wicket, SOLID knock, & WINNING chase – GoPro Village Cricket POV

I played my first village cricket match with the Free Foresters cricket club. Using my GoPro Hero 10, I filmed the match and my batting innings which was played against the Cheshire Gents Cricket Club. I really enjoyed the day and look forward to more matches with the Free Foresters.

  1. Great idea to play with the Free Foresters. What a great way to play village cricket and get to know people with the same interest. And most of the team come from all over England. Understood that the very friendly captain lives near Gloucester, but you played in Cheshire, and that up to 90 games all played away during the season. Assume that the bulk of the team know each other, and arrange to meet somewhere before the match. Still a huge logistic event to organise, and the players need plenty of time to travel etc etc. On to your performance Gareth…good innings, but i think you had in your head a big 4 to make your 50 and to hit the winning runs. Great day out for you, and many new friends met along the way

  2. what an interesting format! i hope more teams play this over the summer

  3. If you get the opportunity to you should play down in arundel castle in sussex if you can get the opportunity to it is a beautiful ground and they play at quite a casual level

  4. Hi Gareth,

Cholmondley is actually pronounced Chumley and that is a stunning ground with a good track have played there a few times

  5. I think you need to blur out the numberplates, Gareth! Otherwise another top video, really amazing effort you put in. Keep going man!

  6. This must have been filmed 3 months ago as I've not seen grass that green in the Outfield for an age

  7. Great game and definitely a beautiful ground to play cricket on, the outfield and surrounds were perfect — all the flaws were in the pitch, haha. Looks like you had a great time and I had a great time watching it.

The son of Sylvester Clarke is pretty close in size, action and speed to his dad, that would have got your adrenaline going! Great video and I look forward to the next one.

  8. What a wicket keeper …bright future ahead …
can i go down the pitch ?? WK: No no no
bowler bowls the ball down the leg side 🤣🤣🤣🤣 he could have got the stumping 🤣🤣🤣
Good game … nice batting 🦾🦾

  9. Mate. Sylvester Clarke was a legend, one of the very fastest and most hostile fast hoteliers I've ever seen. He had a chest on action and caused the best batsmen discomfort with his pace and bounce. Sadly, he died young.
Some good batting there on a hard track to bat on.

  10. can i pls have a go pro lol. but seriously i cant afford one but i want to film my cricket, u have inspired me to do what i love and that is… BAT, BAT AND BAT 😉

  11. Great watching you build an innings. Never seems to bother you when you get off to a slow start, you typically end up at around a run a ball once you're in. Keep them coming!

  12. Gareth, as a fellow South African, you need to know more about Sylvester Clarke (if you don't yet know his story….you most probably around 10-15 years too young to have seen him play.)
As mentioned in the comments above, he came to SA with a rebel Windies team. After that tour he played for the Transvaal Mean Machine captianed by Clive Rice which arguably will never be eclipsed as the best provincial/county side ever. He was a feared fast bowler , as good as Curtley Ambrose, Malcolm Marshall or Courtney Walsh.
Side note: That Transvaal team dominated SA cricket for many seasons in the 1980's and had the likes of Jimmy Cook, Henry Fotheringham, Alvin Kalicharan, Kevin MacKenzie, Kenny McKewen, Graeme Pollock, Ray Jennings, Alan Kourie, Spook Hanley, Neil Radford, Sylvester Clarke, Hugh Page, Roy Pienaar and Vince van der Bijl. All of that talent combined was better than just about any other cricket team on Earth and then they were captained by one of the best all rounders to have ever played the game, Clive Rice.

  13. Thanks for the enjoyable video. Sylvester Clark was a phenomenal and fearsome fast bowler. Apart from his test career, he enjoyed great success and was a vital cog in the incredible performance of the Transvaal “mean machine” in SA during the 80’s under the legendary Clive Rice. Probably the strongest first class team that there has ever been anywhere in the world.

  14. I have been following you a lot Gareth and I've noticed something that you can work on. You often tend to miss your flicks towards square leg. Probably try playing more straight like towards mid wicket and the ln you would be able to play it towards fine leg. I had that problem myself so it would help you out for sure. Would love to have a chat with you on Insta DM, would want to have a conversation with you 😁

  15. Gareth you need to come to north wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 have a game with us … great video again bud

  16. Another cracking video Gareth. It’s days like that which is the reason we all play cricket. Makes the post match beers even better.

  17. Shame you couldn't see it through as it was a perfectly paced knock on a difficult track. And talking up Will's drive… your on drive near the end wasn't half bad either!
