Muirfield, Host of the 2022 AIG Women's Open | Major Detour UK: Episode 6

This year, the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers is making a statement, whether you like it or not… whether you think it’s sufficient or not.

The 21st century is a harsh time for a club that dates back to 1744 at Leith Links, and which boasts traditions and foundations that gave birth to the game (Oldest Trophy in golf, Original Articles & Laws on Golf). The Honourable Company is willing to face its criticisms, but it appropriately won’t forget about many of its cornerstone traditions that make it so special (dinner matches, the 2 ball game…). This is a new HCEG though; one that should be recognized for expediting change within the constraints of traditional private golf club membership application process, one that should certainly be commended for hosting their first AIGWO.

We can’t say enough about the golf course itself. It’s a true test, and we didn’t even get it on a windy day. Subtle in places (ie the downhill nature of the 1st and 15th), yet extreme in others (4th & 16th green sites). An abundance of strategy permeates throughout your round (2nd hole, 3rd hole, 8th hole, 9th hole, 17th hole). The 13th is one of the best par 3s in golf. Its iconic finishing hole is a perfect way to wrap up one of the classiest experiences in golf.
