Q.
The player had interference by an immovable obstruction with their stance in playing a reasonable stroke. They chose not to take the free relief available. Why do you think they did that?

A.
The player’s Nearest Point of Relief (NPR) would have been up the hill, and possibly in a worse position. Therefore, the player thought it would be better if they just play the ball as it lies. They had interference under Rule 16.1, but it was ‘may’ option to take relief, not a ‘must’ option.

  1. Would the player be entitled to free relief in this situation if their ball is in a bush? What is the threshold for "clearly unreasonable?
