  1. If you've come away from England Women's Euro 2022 run and you haven't anything good to say, then you aren't really a football fan.

The standard of women's football has come on leaps and bounds in the 5 yrs I've been watching it.and if you treat it as distinct from the men's game it is actually often more entertaining to watch.

If you watched the England v Spain game and weren't thinking that it was more entertaining and engrossing that 75% of the England men's team games you've seen in the last 10 yrs, or that you were actually watching a likeable team who were giving 100% for the jersey for a change, then we've been watching different England mens games.

The development over the last few years is thanks largely to the largesse of clubs within the men's game in funding and overseeing its professionalisation through the WSL, and the commitment of the women involved to develop their abilities.

However that largesse was based on projected future earnings potential from the women's game and attracting the "female £". The problem with most women's sports from a commercial point of view is a lack of bums on seats (see WNBA, WRFU, and so on), and this is mostly a result of a lack of interest from women in supporting teams, attending games, buying merchandise. .

The subsidisation from the men's game won't go on forever at the levels it currently does, and the WSL needs to begin to make headway in becoming more self-sufficient. Current average attendances in the WSL is >2000, and they want to to be <6000 by the middle of the decade.

I've seen endless talking heads, media personalities, tweets stating how brilliant an achievement this was for women, and it was, but unless women start actually supporting women's football with their money, by showing up to games once in a while, they will risk missing a once-in-a-generation opportunity to bring women's football into the mainstream and make it independently commercially viable.

Speaking of which, Everton Ladies v Leicester Ladies is on 11th Sept, KO 1pm, adults £8 / kids £4, at Walton Hall Park.

Would be nice to see a decent attendence

  2. Crysta Palace 3 outplayed our 2 until Dele came on. I don't like a 2 midfield at all, lose the midfield, lose the game.

  3. I thought they scored some cracking goals.. the back heal boss little goal. The last minute belter from outside the box.. if Ronaldo did that it would be front page.. Na they did Brill proud of them.. could do with a few of them at Everton.. ha

  4. There is absolutely nothing disappointing about signing gana. He is one of the best cdm’s around, even at 32!

  5. It’s needs must for the next 2 seasons. We are not going anywhere finishing position wise over the next 2 seasons. Being a premier league team when BMD opens is our no1 goal. Going down would be an absolute disaster. Coybs.

  6. From my understanding Juventus are bound into buying Kean for around 20+ million at the end of the loan spell, unless I am missing something?

I heard a lot about Juventus being unsure as to whether they should buy this year in order to save money, rather than be stuck with an additional year loan fee. Also Juventus were said at one point to be considering selling Kean to PSG, again, thereby enacting the fee to Everton in this financial year.

^ Doesn't all that point to Juve being on the hook for the Kean purchase?

I understand Juve are happy with Kean's application in pre season, with his goals against Barca etc, so are proceeding with the loan, with the purchase next year.

Maybe something has gone missing in the wash, I don't know.

  7. We have some great players but collectively they don't see the whole picture. Great teams see the game with a birds eye view and are therefore able to come up with that final ball. That vision I think has to come from the manager and he has to get them all to see the same picture he does. By the end of this season the team will have that vision.
