Also conflating the GOAT, top 5, Mount Rushmore conversations with just being a great player is erroneous. A.I. , Charles Barkley, Ewing, all of these guys were “real players” that people give credit to for being great. But there is separation factors when you get to the GOAT type conversations and rings weigh the most.

Short answer is no. Ring chasing is absolutely fine. That's a player deciding I want to know what that feels like; to be on top of the mountain. You hope that a player isn't doing that just to feel validated by a fanatical populace. All a fan can ask is that a player competes hard for the team they play for and are paid by. Being a great player should be a more credit-worthy legacy than winning a ring, but I appreciate that you can't be a great player without trying to.

When people bring up the ring debate i always refer to A.I. . Iverson is a basketball icon. His impact on the game on and OFF the court is UNDOUBTEDLY!!! The stuff he did for the city of Philly is undoubtedly. Some of these guys with multiple rings will never be able to say that. So what is we talking about? I would never downplay the significance of capturing a title but would you rather be a champion over becoming an icon/legend????

Gilbert always distorting the facts. Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, and Larry bird teammates didn’t “come to them”…….they got drafted. Free agency back then wasn’t the same as it is now. Great teams got built through the draft. Pippen, grant, Mchale, James worthy, Byron Scott, etc. all got drafted and developed. Jordan took many ass beatings waiting on pippen and grant to develop. NO ONE has ever won a championship by themselves. Also, having a ring doesn’t make you a great player. Being a great player makes you a great player. Plenty of role players got rings and several all time greats don’t have rings. There’s not a power forward playing today that better than Karl Malone or Charles Barkley.
