  1. They talk down on players that leave teams and say they not loyal but call the players that stay loyal to their team stupid for staying in a small market

  2. It always enhances a legacy, look at Iverson, he's on off the all time greats pound for pound, now imagine Iverson with one ring, won against Shaq & Kobe's lakers… Now that would put Iverson top 10 ever, he's not top 10 ever now, nobody in there right mind mensions him top 10 now. What would Tracey Mcgrady be with a ring? I mean, it's a bug factor.

  3. Basketball a team game. Individual players to me are dumb debates. Team game. Team debates lol. The nba markets Individual players so the interest is there. But if you ask me the greatest teams of all time should be a debate. No a top 75 list.

  4. I love Jr no homo and I HAAAATE GILBERT, HES SO LAME, HE SAYS ANYTHING, HE DOESNT MAKE A LOY OF SENSE BUT HE KNOWS HOW TO SAY STUFF TO MAKE PEOPLE SHAKE THEIR HEADS AND SAY YES U RIGHT BUT HE DEAD WRONG

  5. Nobody was counting the rings like that until lebron started being compared to jordan. Since lebron was so much better all around, they had to go to the ring argument and them when you mention Bill Russell they move the goalpost to something else

  6. All due respect Gilbert is cappin with that top 75 players with 6k points were trash individually. That word choice was way to far.

Also conflating the GOAT, top 5, Mount Rushmore conversations with just being a great player is erroneous. A.I. , Charles Barkley, Ewing, all of these guys were “real players” that people give credit to for being great. But there is separation factors when you get to the GOAT type conversations and rings weigh the most.

I don’t want to say there was some bitterness or bias coming from Gil but he was buggin with his takes.

  7. If rings are the sole reason for how to judge players then

    – Bill Russell is the undisputed GOAT
    – Sam Jones is the GOAT SG
    – Robert Horry > Michael Jordan

  8. Yeah fuck what these niggas talking about….Gilbert played in dc….wtf is great about that? They're not warriors. Hall of famers didn't come to Jordan he created them. There's levels to this shit. These niggas were never considered top 75 players. Dame is a warrior.

  9. Short answer is no. Ring chasing is absolutely fine. That's a player deciding I want to know what that feels like; to be on top of the mountain. You hope that a player isn't doing that just to feel validated by a fanatical populace. All a fan can ask is that a player competes hard for the team they play for and are paid by. Being a great player should be a more credit-worthy legacy than winning a ring, but I appreciate that you can't be a great player without trying to.

  10. When people bring up the ring debate i always refer to A.I. . Iverson is a basketball icon. His impact on the game on and OFF the court is UNDOUBTEDLY!!! The stuff he did for the city of Philly is undoubtedly. Some of these guys with multiple rings will never be able to say that. So what is we talking about? I would never downplay the significance of capturing a title but would you rather be a champion over becoming an icon/legend????

  11. you don’t need. A ring to be great but you do need one to be considered higher up and up on mt Rushmore

  12. How you get your rings matter just as much as you getting one not being a team hopper like mr.James still great but looked at differently

  13. Gilbert thank you so much for saying this !!!! The stay in one team theory is the most manipulative tactic in sports history !!!!!

  14. Basketball is judged in a light of “contradiction” it’s a “team sport” but we also “individually judge” players that’s in itself causes major confusion. In all basketball is an opinion based sport even with statistics and it will never change…

  15. You have to draft HOF’s. Whenever you go out and team up with another veteran superstar it looks weak. No way around it.

  16. All easy to say when your not a HOF player and all lol. If MJ, Magic, Shaq, all sat in the room with Gil he'd have his tail tucked between his legs saying nothing cause he'd feel his position in the rankings which is not top 150 ever in terms of HOF career. Stop with the cap

  17. Not a trailblazers fan but they made a lot of good moves in the draft and free agency it’s not impossible for him to get a ring but the western conference is always a dog fight in the players but the second round is where it counts

  18. Glad to see some real players making the same points i've made about this topic in private/personal debates with friends…

  19. It’s nice to see that legend has it JR is somewhere still playing game one of that Cavs finals game in 2017 is greatly exaggerated

  20. Gilbert always distorting the facts. Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, and Larry bird teammates didn’t “come to them”…….they got drafted. Free agency back then wasn’t the same as it is now. Great teams got built through the draft. Pippen, grant, Mchale, James worthy, Byron Scott, etc. all got drafted and developed. Jordan took many ass beatings waiting on pippen and grant to develop. NO ONE has ever won a championship by themselves. Also, having a ring doesn’t make you a great player. Being a great player makes you a great player. Plenty of role players got rings and several all time greats don’t have rings. There’s not a power forward playing today that better than Karl Malone or Charles Barkley.
