CAN A DTC BALL BEAT THE BEST GOLF BALLS ON THE MARKET AND SAVE YOU $20 A BOX? // Testing SEED SD-X1

Today, Ian and Mac are testing the SD-X1 Pro X1 from Seed Golf, a direct to consumer brand from Ireland offering tour-quality performance at an affordable price.

The SD-X1 Pro X1 is optimised for a lower, tour-preferred flight and maximum driver distance. Players who choose it are likely to low handicap or stronger swingers looking for maximum distance off the tee.

  1. have to say, i do miss matt on the channel, but mac is doing a phenomenal job filling in. his versatility to control his delivery is top level. props to both of them and ian for what they done for the channel to provide us with the information and entertainment

  2. So many DTC ball companies now you need a few weeks of testing to try them all. Maybe that could be something to do in the future, like Shark Week it could be Balls Week.

  3. The big disclaimer is that when you pull a Titleist out of the box, you can trust it is going to be identical in quality to the last one. You can't say that with most DTC (or even major OEM) brands. Is that confidence worth $20? That depends on the golfer.

  4. Great video as always. Would love to see a comparison of the DTC (Seed, Snell and Vice). It would be interesting to see which one comes out on top.

  5. Great video guys. This company is close to me so I have used these balls alot. Great value for money and hard to tell the difference between these and a prov1. Dean the CEO is a great guy and has a really good product here. Great job

  6. Man how he hits it so flush and has the clubhead so far behind the ball when he starts his backswing is a mystery to me.

  7. Great video guys. I have been using another DTC company that I’ve never heard anybody else use, Pearl Golf, I’ve been using their Pure Pro X balls (equivalent to Pro v1x), have been very pleased with durability, consistency and performance. would be very interested to see you do a video with all the data for them!

  9. The Pro V1 is such a good ball. I've seen numerous head to heads like this as the Titleist almost always has more spin on the short clubs where its generally beneficial, and then it has a lower spin off driver.

  10. Would be cool if there’s a seed in the middle and after 30 years, the ball disintegrates and a tree is planted

  11. For me, I like to save money — but I need durability of the cover. Anecdotally, a yellow Pro V1 will survive almost anything (and supposedly, so will a yellow Snell MTB) — and if Titleist ever puts its 4 for 3 deal back, it's probably worth it to me to pay extra.

  12. Have you found durability concerns with the DTC balls? Feel like you might be losing out on performance there

  13. Congrats to Seed, very strong results against the leader in the premium ball market. 🇮🇪 🇮🇪 🇮🇪

  14. Great video and looks a really nice ball – although historically I have enjoyed using Vice golf balls.

And yet another test that shows that the MGS mantra "soft is slow" is simply unsupportable by the evidence – although it wasn't supportable based on their own data if you analysed it correctly and apply some form of statistical significance and p- value tests

  15. At some point, you should do a best DTC ball test– Snell, Seed, Oncore, Sugar, Vice, etc.

  16. Based in Ireland, tried the range and use SEED SD-01 But they are sold out, so a very timely review for SD-X1, thanks 👍

  17. Have used a Seed SD-01 for two years now. Two holes in one and handicap down from 24 to 12 in that time so they're doing something right! My next pack on their subscription is going to be X1s so i can do the comparison.

  18. Ian, your comment around 10:25 stating firmer compression = faster ball speeds, do you find the AVX to be an anomaly? Reading the specs, it’s targeted towards slower swing speeds for further distance and lower spin. As a high swing speed player (110+ with driver) I’ve found this ball to be the best for tee shots. I don’t see nearly as many drives “balloon” if I deliver too much extra loft.

  19. Would love to see a test of the SaintNine balls. I bought a dozen at the Portland Golf show. Urethane cover and feels good for my senior swing. Realatively low cost.

  20. I'm from Ireland and had heard of seed before but never looked into getting their balls. Have just ordered my 1st bundle off them on the back of this video. Good work guys, great to see the promotion of smaller companies.
