Gulfport becomes another in an illustrious line of very fast horses campaigned by Bill and Corinne Heiligbrodt, longtime clients of trainer Steve Asmussen. The son of champion Uncle Mo followed up a seven-length victory on June 10 at Churchill Downs with a 12 1/4-length romp over Owen’s Leap in the closing-day $175,000 Bashford Manor. Off at 1-5 odds, Gulfport completed 6 furlongs in 1:09.25 – the second-fastest time in 121 runnings of the 2-year-old stakes.
