GRIP DOWN ON DRIVER? MORE CONSISTENCY WITH THIS EASY TWEAK!

GRIP DOWN ON DRIVER? MORE CONSISTENCY WITH THIS EASY TWEAK! The numbers don’t lie!
We compare gripping down on a fairway wood 1.5 inches as well as with the driver; we also took a shorter driver and gripped down and got ever more surprised!

  1. Hi Shawn, thanks for the lesson! Was wondering as you grip down would you change tee height or position?

  2. I'm always way more consistent when I grip down, but I always fight this bone headed tendency to grip at the very end of the grip, partially because I'm 6'7" and it feels more natural and because in the back of my head I'm thinking longer club equals more speed despite the fact I disprove it virtually every time I choke down.

  3. If have a tight shot or the wind is a bit swirly I grip down on the club and it's way easier to hit into the teeth of the wind and I actually find if I choke down I nearly get the same distance out of it.

  4. What a coincidence … so this past weekend I was playing with a good friend and he mentioned his driver was cut down to 44 1/4 inches. My driver is on the longer side at 46 inches. On the 17th and 18th holes (a par 5 and 4 respectively) I used his driver which 1) felt very short yet controllable 2) much lighter and easier to whip “effortlessly” through the ball. The result were 2 dead straight 285 yrd+ carry drives that rolled out to well over 300 yards on the fairway. This only verified with QC quad level accuracy the numbers.

  5. I cut my driver down to 42 inches. I'm hitting way more fairways, more control. Best thing I ever did. I'm 6'1" btw.

  6. I remember Anthony Kim used to grip down on all his clubs. I've tried it off and on over the years. I'm currently not doing it, I might have to give it another go. I did like how the back inch or so creates kind of a counter balance believe it or not.

  7. As a strong grip and short guy, shorter club is a must.
I cut my iron 1half inch, feel much better, better than hold the club short!

  8. Just an aside. I'm a hobbiest club builder going on 25 years now, and for my buddies and myself, I would build 3 wood length higher lofted drivers with steel shafts, and they really were fairway finders. They weren't quite as long as a regular driver, but close enough for what we gained in accuracy.

  9. People always questioned why Brookes Henderson gripped down as opposed to using shorter shafts. I believe you answered that question. Thanks Shawn.
