I bought MATT FITZPATRICK'S US OPEN winning Irons…

With Matthew Fitzpatrick winning the 2022 US Open in style I came to realise what irons he used to win… so I decided to go and buy them!?

  1. It’s great to Matt, using older irons. He’s not afraid to use what suits him best regardless of the age. He used to buy the same yes putters off eBay until bettinardi basically got in touch and made an identical one for him.

  2. Hey Simon, great video and really interesting to hear Matt still plays the old S55s. Just a clarification though with regards to the Blueprint irons. Unless I am wrong and Ping are stretching the truth it's a fully forged iron, no hollow body here. The screw is either just a tungsten weight or for show to blend in with the i series for combo set possibilities. From their web site: "Fully forged from 8620 carbon steel, the blade-style, tour-inspired design is engineered for the highly skilled player".

  3. I’m still playing Taylormade r9 irons. They’re just fantastic and I can’t imagine replacing them. New is definitely not always better.

  4. Hi Si agree with comments I’ve been playing with Cobra Fly Z pro irons in a combo set 8-pw blades 4-7 fly z + muscle.
Looked in recent years for new irons can’t find anything close to cobras for feel / striking , I know it’s personal choice but to support your comments I regripped them and noticed instant improvement.
When they give up ghost I’ll be sorry to see back of them, the flyz blades never get much love but highly recommended

  5. As you said before Simon all ping irons are all good no matter what model you use the g series are no different from g10 to g425 just slightly different in look the I series the same jus quality through and through

  6. Daniel Berger is still playing the old Taylormade irons from a few years back
There’s a tour pro on the dp world tour playing the Callaway razor tour irons
Stenson is still playing the Callaway legacy irons there even older than Fitzpatrick irons
Just goes to show old is no different to new

  7. This is the reason I'm sticking with my TaylorMade RACs. They are powerful clubs with traditional lofts and they just work. Forgiving and feel soft out of the middle. I don't want a 27 degree 7 iron, I want a club that goes an exact distance almost every shot.

  8. I always regret selling my Ping Zing 2 irons. Went to Gainsborough and was fitted for them. Changed them for a set of TaylorMade irons. Big mistake.

  9. Great video. I was surprised as well when I went to WRX to see what’s in the bag. I recently picked up a set of new Ping iE1 irons and shocked how awesome they even though they are considered old.
Thanks for the content and keep it coming. So ready for The Open after last weekend!
