  1. I come from a baseball background so when I first started golfing it felt like I was holding tooth picks… I got the jumbo grip (small) because that’s what their chart fitted me for. It has made my golf game improve because of the comfortable feeling I have in my hands now. I don’t think a thick or thin grip will change if you slice or hook but more of how comfortable you are to the golf club. Don’t knock it til you try it!

  2. I've just moved from standard to midsize with 4 layers of tape. Although my hands aren't huge, I have longer fingers and some nerve damage/weakness. It's much more comfortable and my fingers still touch my left thumb at address, so it's not as inhibiting as a full Jumbo. Two rounds so far and I'm feeling not so concerned about the hands flipping over and a big snap hook. Thins are also less painful. Definitely personal preference though.

  3. You don’t even wanna know what I would do to get inside the Mizuno tour truck and be able to have custom clubs made!

  4. I get why Matt used the larger JumboMax grip for the test but it's not really a fair reflection on the product as a whole. I've been using a JumboMax medium on my driver and a wedge now for about 6 months as an experiment and agree that at first, with the driver especially, it exacerbated my miss to the right. However, my wedge game improved dramatically (I have the STR8 grips, so you can grip down the shaft and it's the same thickness, top, middle or bottom). I improved with the driver when I had the light bulb moment of grip pressure though, as you can grip the club with much less pressure with these grips than you would with a standard / thinner grip. All-in-all I'd say, as Matt does, it's horses for courses and it depends on hand size, grip pressure and shot shape. That said, I can now draw or fade the driver at will, it just takes time to work with them mentally IMO. Currently planning on putting the STR8 Mediums on all my wedges and the next size down for my irons in the next few months.

  5. I just bought a used Mizuno ST200 driver that came with an oversized grip. I’ve been topping a ton of drives and weirdly hooking which I never did before. The grip feels very uncomfortable but didn’t think it could be affecting my shot. Time to re-grip I think.

  6. I’ve been using the Jumbomax JMX ultralites for the last 9 months and absolutely love them. I wear a XL glove and the L is the right grip for me. I have the beginnings of arthritis in my hands and these grips really help as you don’t grip them as tightly.

  7. Very interesting I have just gone 2 wraps on my clubs made a great difference for me 👍
    Great chanel Matt 👌

  8. One of the lads has just bought some of these and absolutely loves them. Equalled his best round ever with them!! Loving the videos Matt keep it up 👍🏼

  9. Thanks for the video. I’m testing the Jumbomax str8
non-taper jumbo lite in XS. I Have it on my driver, LW, and now trying on my 8i. So far I really like them. Takes a little time getting used to, but I feel like I have more control over the club head. A bonus is with driver you feel like a dang 8’ tall Viking welding a monster sword. But they’re not for everyone as some hate the feeling. another issue can be taken more effort to release the club.

  10. I wish people would stop reviewing Brysons XL grips and instead just reviews the grips in general so the masses don't go out and get the wrong size grip then say they don't benefit them at all. Use the sizing chart on the website but before you orer a set maybe order 1 or two different texture grip or sizes to find the one that you benefit the most from. The biggest misconception with their grips is it will affect the release of the club which is old school thinking. What actually happens is that you don't need a death grip to hang onto the club which results in lighter grip pressure which in turn helps with release and added clubhead speed. You definitely didn't do any justice for the grips. There is absolutely no reason to give a review for a grip that clearly doesn't fit you. If you used the jumbo grips from any other mfg you'd basically experience the same results. Not a fair review whatsoever but at least you clarified at the end though.

The xs JumboMax seems to be working just fine for Retief Goosen and your buddy Peter Finch seems to love his JumboMax as well.

  11. I use mid grips just to stop my grip pressure being to tight I strangle them if too small. I have watched plenty of Bryson and he flattens his front wrist and almost arm locks all clubs to try and remove variables of face to path and then Kyle Berkshire uses undersized and uses a lot of wrist but he doesn’t have worry about consistency.

  12. That is the tour grip weighs 90 grams in the small. Bryson used the ultra lite jumbo max grips weigh 44 grams or so in small he uses xtra large which is ridiculously big. Put the tour grips on your 60 degree it is a counter balance grip

  13. I moved to Jumbomax XL Ultralite Grips (size medium) in all my Clubs last year. (My arthritis had got so bad that I couldn't hold a club with a "normal" sized grip and was seriously considering giving up the game).
The results have been AMAZING, I can now play golf pain-free! I have also gained clubhead speed, and hit the ball higher, further and with much better dispersion.
It does take some experimentation to get used to the larger grips, like Bryson I now have the shaft much more in the palm with my upper hand (left hand in my case), not in the fingers. After hitting a couple of baskets of balls I also found that I was opening the clubface much less in the backswing so that the clubface was square at impact without having to close the face in the downswing. Now I don't have to worry about "squaring" the clubface at impact, the face just automatically stays square throughout the whole swing. So now I "just have to Grip it and Rip It"! Simple.

  14. I think I saw somewhere, maybe even on Finch’s channel, that the preferred method of gripping the JumboMax is thru the palm and not “conventionally” in the fingers. I think with Bryson that grip and thru the palm allows him to play the One Length irons better.

  15. This is all where my mechanics seem to work completely opposite to what they say should happen…
Im a M glove. I tried jumbo grips i like the way they feel but just seem to close the face and hook everything…
Same with a strong grip. The stronger I go, the less I release and the more the face is open…
    Why am I broken…😄

I'm on standard grips now, but I am tempted with trying undersized just for experimental purposes…

  16. So many jokes can be made by Matt talking about how he's not comfortable with something that size🤓. Seriously get the ultralight and the correct size for those small hands. My glove size is XXL and I like a bigger grip.

  17. I use a large grip, I found it great. I am xl glove and on a standard size grip my fingers dig into my palm.

I used to get sore hands also and big grips helped that. As I get better I found that to be caused by flipping and no lag/hitting down. When you flip the opposing force is applied in between your 2 little fingers. You need to grip very firm because of the close distance between them. I now hit down with lag and get in front of the ball. This puts the pressure to the outer palm of both hands about 25cm apart instead of 3. More leverage means a lighter grip and no sore hands. I could probably play standard now but I still like the big grips and probably not good to have my fingers digging into my palm.

  18. not a good example he doesn't swing like Bryson or have his speed you really can't put down somebody else's equipment if you don't play exactly like the other person and by the way Bryson is a US Open champion, you're not stick with evaluating your own equipment

  19. My two cents and recommendation is to do a follow up video where you hit the Bryson Grip one hundred times and learn to hit it properly – learning to do so will for anyone who tries it, improve their delivery dramatically. Huge grips promote learning to getting the face of the club in proper position early at the top and not relying on your hands to save an open face at impact – which is not an optimal strategy to becoming a good golfer – and as you can see, your misses were all right – thus the open face.

  20. I would have liked you to have had someone who takes an XL glove to compare their data. Lots of comments from golfers here who, like myself, have larger hands and feel they benefit from the bigger grips. Would have given the evidence to support or detract from what they say. I use midsize but often wonder about refitting with jumbo size so that extra data would have been good as I fear I may move the club too much into the palm of the hand if I change.

  21. Matt, you began the test with a mental bias. The Average golfer tried them and he hit his longest ever drive using the Bryson grip. They are reported to be the same weight as a standard grip, due to the materials used. Maybe you do have very small hands and could be the reason why you struggle using thicker grips. I use jumbo grips but have large hands, XL glove size, my game has improved since going to Jumbo grips, making my hands less active has stopped the hooky shots when the hands take over.

  22. Very interesting Matt. I was having some bad hand pain a few years ago and switched to midsize and jumbo Golfpride grips. Not as large as the Bryson grips, but noticeably larger. After some trial and error, I settled on Jumbo grips for the 7 iron- Wedges, and Midsize for 5-6 irons and driver. Jumbo's for the hybrid and Fairway. Hand pain went away, shots are fairly straight and controllable.I wish the grip size would eliminate the chilli dips, duffed shots and stupidity from my game but so far no good. Thanks.

  23. The Bryson grip is for people who grip more in the palms than the fingers. Almost like you’d hold a putter. Matt trying to hold it in his normal grip was great to watch 😂 disaster waiting to happen.
That’s why bryson uses them grips cos they fill his palms up!
    Love the channel mate

  24. I switched to jumbo max ultra light large this year. The ultra light is 8 grams lighter than my golf pride grip it replaced.
I fitted them to all my clubs. I was concerned that it may affect my short game around the green but I needn’t have been concerned.
One area that has noticeably improved is the accuracy of my long irons into the green.
For me they feel so good to grip and without doubt my grip pressure has reduced taking tension out the forearms.
It took me a few weeks to get used to the look and I had to change my carry bag to get them all in.

  25. This video is waaay more ignorant than when Peter Finch did basically video months ago. At least he eventually tried to adjust his grip. Considering that you found the wrong Jumbomax grip (Bryson plays Ultralite at around half the weight of the one you've got there), didn't figure out in any way which of the 7(!!) sizes of grip was right for your hand, or which of them you had a hold of (none of them are called "oversize"), is just so ignorant and clickbaity.

"I dunno how he plays with these." Good sir, there are just dozens of videos out there on how to grip those grips (try Kirk Junge or Bryson's own videos). Did you really just find a random Jumbomax grip in a golf workshop and not investigate more than "aren't those Bryson's grips, you know, the Jumbomax oversize things? Right, turn on the camera, then, a few knocks on the range and straight into the data averages. Brilliant!"?

  26. They happen to work amazing on Wedges. Quite the hands from flipping. The way you present sometimes is very annoying. As if your opinion, is the only valid one. "Why would anyone do this?" Because for some…It really works. Thumbs down.

  27. For a small to medium glove size you would likely be in jumbo max small to medium this video is a miss representation of jumbo max grips as you using 2 to 3 sizes to big

  28. You missed the obvious fact that changing those grips wildly changed your swing weights for the club. Going to the jumbomax from a undersized would add like 40g of weight at the grip. That could change you from a D2 to a C2 or more. This is why when you are wondering a trial like this it is so important to do it with a true club fitter that can make those adjustments on the fly so you compare apples to apples.

  29. The Jumbo grips are nuts. I use medium which just feels comfortable for me. I can only imagine you would have to baseball grip it i.e no overlap or interlock

  30. I have similar sized hands to Matt, small-medium glove. I'd wondered about getting some of these to help with my arthritic fingers. What would you suggest size wise? I currently use a mid-size CP2 wrap.
