Great content matt 👍you still doing lesson's ??
So right Matt, I had the best round of my life a couple of weeks ago, my playing partner said he was impressed with the way I managed the course. I Didn't hit more than a 7 iron all round on a new course and beat my best score by 7 shots!
Lol I plan, hit, plan again, hit, plan again, hit and go home lol 😂 only joking, plot my way round to my ability is hard enough as I am a cruel mistress.
All very good advice. I only disagree with the one comment about there not being any magic clubs..my Cobra one length 19 and 22⁰ hybrids are magic, as are my TaylorMade GAPR mid iron, my PRGR 45⁰ wedge, my Smithworks 54⁰ wedge, my Alien 60⁰ lob wedge and my V300 chipper. Add to these a 12⁰ driver shortened by 1.5 inches and you have a lot of tools that make the game easier and more enjoyable
Great info.
Good video, I’ll try to keep the driver in the bag a bit more but it talks to me the most on the course. Insane drive at Marriott on Thursday, on the 18th mate. Glad I followed you guys.oh and what a 7 iron approach nearly the biggest of birds my friend
Wonder if Mr Shiels watches this content? Couldn't hurt 😂😂🤣🤣
I have a plan 3 wood, 7 wood, wedge then putt. 🤣🤣
Great stuff Matt !
I always hear this on our 18th hole, it's about 295m, my drive is around 220 – 230m, there is a cliff to the right and water / bunkers to the left, my go to shot is always the 19deg hybrid, i hit it around 185-195m, then an easy PW or 9 iron, the guys laugh and say "he's hitting his chicken stick again".
Well I was the only one to par the hole, 190m down the middle, PW pin high 2m off the green, lack of practice time, means I use the 19deg hybrid to chip/putt to 1/2m and tap in par, play to your strengths and work on and understand your weaknesses!!
I was playing in my golf league last night and one of the guys on my team was a 20-something kid with a nice swing. It was sneaky windy, probably 25 MPH gusts, and at least 15 MPH all the time. I noticed that he was under-clubbing on his approach shots, which we really needed from him since he was hitting nice high straight/slight fade irons. On our fourth hole, a short par 3, I went back to his tee box (he has to play from the tips), measured the yardage, say 140. I told him "Its 140, but it plays about 153." He said "No way, there's not much wind really." Oh yes there is, you just can't feel it on this tee box. But it's there and as high as you hit it, there's definitely wind up there. He took my advice, clubbed-up one club, and hit a beautiful shot pin-high. He was kind of surprised that it worked. I told him that when the wind is in my face on this course, I club up 1 or 2 clubs until I'm proven wrong. He had a bit of an epiphany I think when I told him that.
Well done matt 👏 👍
#5, 100%!
My pitch is 43 my old pitch is 46. Loft are different. I golf with my buddy that bought my old clubs. I pull out my A wedge 46. I tell him hit his 9 42 and we are same 130 distance.
I just started using a range finder. I was 170 yards away from the pin. I hit my 4H, hits the center of green and rolls into the light rough up the back. So the ball probably went 175 after rolling. So I chip, then 2 putt for bogey. And to me that was a good hole. Honestly I thought rangefinders were overkill, but they actually work lol. My putting is what got me last week🤦♂️ great video and tips. I compare myself way to much in golfing with my friends.
Great point on wedge lofts. Guys have become obsessed with wedge sets. I hit PW and 56deg. That’s it and it works well for me
At my club missing long is way, way worse than missing short. New golf course, over pretty much every green is a downslope to hazard/woods. Not forgiving slopes either, not long enough grass to stop a ball. So missing long is usually a lost ball and/or a drop, whereas missing short is just fine. So I find myself defaulting to the slight underclub when I'm not sure. Now chipping is the one I have to remind myself all the time…past the flag is fine, stop leaving it 10-20 feet short.
Which part of your game is the weakest – golf!
Think another nugget that I was told if it's a par 4 let's say but it's maybe a low stroke index play it like a par 5, and sometimes u might get a cheeky par if not at worst a bogey. Don't try and be a hero if u have shots use them and use them wisely.
Great video Matt
You don't need a plan. Just a lot of golf balls. Grip it and rip it!
really nice reminder, especially on the add 5 yards, thanks Matt
