LOOKOUT POINT CC | Walter (Travis) Weekend: Part 2

According to Marlene Streit, “if it hadn’t been for Lookout Point and Gordon McInnis, I wouldn’t have had this wonderful journey through golf, and I suppose, ending up in the World Golf Hall of Fame.”

Join us for Part 2 of Walter Weekend, where we explore the second of two of Walter Travis’ layouts in the Niagara region. Located in Fonthill, ON, minutes from Niagara Falls, Lookout Point is a true test of golf. Gord McInnis Sr. influenced countless golfers, none more influential than Marlene Streit (only player to have won the Canadian, US, British and Australian Amateur Championships) and Cathy Sherk (1978 US & ‘77, ‘78 Canadian Women’s Amateur Champion, Canadian Golf Hall of Fame).

It’s a course that boasts dramatic elevation change, classic Travis chocolate drop mounding, some of Canada’s best green sites, and what Ian Andrew calls “the best opening hole in Canada” at the first. The 3rd, 5th and 6th green sites are simply world class. The 18th is mind bending. Despite its yardage of 6,700 yards from the tips, scoring doesn’t come easy. Holes like 11 or 13 can crush the momentum of the trending round. The course will have you on edge the entire round with features like the raised 10th green, or the dropoff beyond 15 green. It’s no wonder world class golfers are bred here.

Lookout is a big golf family, one that TPL feels lucky to be a small part of. This episode is dedicated to the 200 year foursome and the late Bill Heelis.

“You couldn’t replace this golf course… nature actually created this golf course.”

– Bill Heelis

  1. It’s always a pleasure to play golf at lookout point. It is a great course that rewards good strategy and imagination as much as skill. I think the members will enjoy reading the 100th anniversary book which will be published this year. The history of lookout point is really quite remarkable. Great to see Bill Heelis in this video, we certainly miss him.
