There are few better ways to win your first major than to beat a five-time Open champion in a tense playoff. But that is how Stewart Cink did it in 2009 at the 138th Open Championship.
The American was consistent throughout the tournament, remaining in the top 10 over the opening three days, scoring 66, 72 and 71 to place him in sixth heading into the final round, three shots off the lead.
Cink managed to navigate the challenging Scottish course, only dropping four shots and sinking five birdies. This performance left him level on two under par with the legendary Tom Watson as a tense four-hole playoff loomed to decide the championship.
Cink overcame the wily veteran in the gripping playoff at Turnberry. Proving he could compete on the biggest stage and dig deep to secure victory.
The only major golf victory in Stewart Cink’s career. We have every televised shot of that historic Championship round for you to enjoy.

Love you, Stewy Stewy Cink, but WORST TIMING TO BE A MAJOR CHAMPION 😂
I still can't get over this
The only people that were happy Stewart Cink won that year were his family and his agent.
