Earnhardt History with Aunt Cathy

Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kelley Earnhardt-Miller’s aunt Cathy joined them on The Dale Jr. Download. Cathy gives a personal look into details about Ralph Earnhardt’s health and the heart attack that caused his untimely death in 1973. She explains how seeing the shop door closed behind the house was crushing. After Ralph’s passing, Cathy talks about how her brother, Dale Earnhardt, used his iron-clad work ethic to create opportunities to race. He was a self-made racer that eventually made it to the pinnacle of the sport. That success on track came at the cost of his family life.

  2. Yup. Have to agree. Aunty Cathy rocked the table. Loved that one. In someways really. Maybe in many. Some can know how all that story can be. For some there is still hope.

  3. I understand why she would take up for her brother, I truly do, but the hearsay about him being a good father, came from Dale, himself. Racing was his god. Period. His children didn’t have him around as a dad and suffered. He was able to be closer to them after they were all grown, but when they were little and needed him the most, he wasn’t a good dad…or husband.

  4. The old photo with Ralph and the two girls sitting on the steps. The girl on the right looks like Jr in a wig. Lol

  5. I appreciate that you are willing to allow such personal information to be put out there on your podcast. There are plenty of celebrities that choose to hide certain things from their personal life and I commend you for allowing us, your fans', to have a glimpse into your background and family history. It is so refreshing that you are aware and connected with your audience to bring these topics to us.

  6. Loved listening to your podcasts. I was interested in the comment about Dales dad being so brilliant in spite of grades in school. And Cathy saying if your read something he got it. I had the same trouble. I didn’t learn till I was about twenty when a dr told me I needed to have surgery on my eyes. An d I realized I had one eye that needed to shorten a muscule so both eyes would be equal. I had to work so hard to focus my eyes together that I missed the sense of what I was reading. Having someone reader to me and I got.

  7. Wow, great clip. The look on Cathy's face and sound of her voice when she said "We're back in business?" is so down to Earth.
