Me and my golf students have witness Bryson DeChambeau’s golf swing evolve over the last several years and even still notice changes in the athletic motion to this day. Once DeChambeau set out to expand the distance in his drive, he worked to improve both his body conditioning and the actions he takes in his golf swing.
The typical Bryson DeChambeau golf swing once consisted of many fade shots, which Bryson described as his attempt to emulate the great Ben Hogan’s golf swing. After DeChambeau captured the US Amateur and the NCAA Championships, he decided to begin drawing nearly all of his shots once he had begun to work with his swing coach Chris Como. Drawing instead of fading has increased both the movement and momentum in DeChambeau’s golf swing, while expanding his driving distance considerably.
DeChambeau has been known to use a variety of equipment and swing styles that me and my golf students readily identify while watching him on the tour. Much of the equipment or strategies that Bryson implements may seem like trial and error, which should show future top speed golf pros the immense importance of experimentation relating to their golf swing development.
As Kyle Berkshire once exhibited a very bizarre golf swing when he first began his career, marked by an excessively strong swing grip and busy foot work, Berkshire struggled with generating any swing speed before working with his swing coach. Berkshire’s team fleshed out his unusual golf swing rather than deconstructing the entire athletic motion that came naturally to Kyle. Berkshire’s golf swing was drastically improved without deconstructing any of the foundational mechanics behind the action that served Kyle’s natural abilities as a golfer.
Kyle and his team discovered he had a natural ability to generate powerful impact by further developing a combination of athletic motion during the swing arc, which raised his hands considerably while also working to push off of the ground with greater force in order to release as hard as possible without every sacrificing the accuracy in his swing which has made Kyle Berkshire a rising star in the sport of golf.
