This is why why you see a pro hit a shot off-line, the first thing they do is check their alignment. When an amateur hit a shot off line he either makes up an excuse or says he just hit it badly and that’s because they were trying to direct the ball toward their target whereas a pro is simply hitting the ball toward where they are aligned. There is a big difference. When you’re trying to hit the ball toward a target that you are not aligned toward it’s not only hard but often the ball ends up going exactly where you’re aligned. How many times, have you heard someone say, “You hit it right where you were aimed.”
