Bryson DeChambeau landed himself in hot water with his golf equipment supplier, Cobra, after the American said his “driver sucks” following a first-round one-over 71 at The Open Championships on the Royal St. George’s Golf Course on Thursday.
Cobra accused DeChambeau of “acting like an eight-year-old” after the 27-year-old admitted he has been “living on the razor’s edge” in terms of his style of play.
Later on Thursday, the 2020 US Open champion issued an apology on Instagram for his post-round comments and wrote “I sucked today, not my equipment.”
DeChambeau hit just four of 14 fairways, made five bogeys to go with four birdies and finished seven strokes behind first round leader South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen.
