Golf Tips:How To Grip A Golf Club

Visit for further golf tips on how to grip a golf club.

This video explains how to grip a golf club by making the correct golf grip. John Richardson learnt this tip from the American instructor Harvey Penick, who coached Tom Kite and Ben Crenshaw amongst others. In order to form a proper golf grip you simply need to place your hands on a ruler, or a yard stick as Penick originally advised. By simply doing this it is extremely difficult not to make the correct grip. Like molded grips it forces your hands to take the perfect grip.

It’s important when learning how to grip a golf club to ensure your grip is square at impact because if the club face is 1 degree out either way at impact you will see the ball fly 20 yards right or left of the target. Thus John recommends you follow this tip to ensure you have a consistent grip that allows you to be square at impact.
