What is the appeal of Hickory golf? – Sandy Lyle

Sandy Lyle is a Scottish professional golfer. Lyle has won two major championships during his career. Along with Nick Faldo and Ian Woosnam, he became one of Britain’s top golfers during the 1980s. He spent 167 weeks in the top-10 of the Official World Golf Ranking from its introduction, in 1986, until 1989. Lyle was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in May 2012.

While most professional golfers pride themselves on using the latest whiz-bang equipment, Hickory golf is where the players are happily swinging antiques.

Part of the attraction of playing with hickory clubs is that they reintroduce ‘feel’ to the golf shot. Proponents also claim that hickory golf allows golfers to play classic golf courses as they are meant to be played.
