MARSHALL CANYON GOLF COURSE – Pig and Wolf Newbies

I’ve finally convinced my K4 brothers to try Pig and Wolf which is a fun way to play team skins. For those who aren’t familiar with the game, you start off by determining a set tee of order. For our round, I decided to start with the highest handicap player to the lowest in order to give the higher handicap players a slight advantage of being able to pick on the 17th and 18th holes. Our tee of order was Brian hyung, Sean, Yaz hyung and I hitting last.

The first person to tee off gets to choose his partner for that hole or if brave enough, decide to go Wolf (solo). On the next hole, the tee off order changes by starting with the 2nd player and so on. On the 5th hole, the tee off order goes back to the original order. The first one to tee off must pick his partner before the next player hits their ball or they forfeit or automatically pass on the previous player’s shot if they decided to change their mind. If the player passes on all 3 players, they are the Wolf and it’s 3 against 1 using best ball.

To make it an even playing field, you also factor in everyone’s handicaps and the lower handicap players give strokes to higher handicap players based on hardest handicap holes. Just like regular skins game, there are carryovers which makes the decision process more interesting especially when you have to factor in who gets strokes on a given hole.

After a few holes, the fellas began to pick up on the game and the strategy involved to pick wisely. We decided to play with the top 2 players with the most skins getting lunch on the 2 players with the lowest number of skins.

If you haven’t tried this game, give it a go and you can set your own unique rules like only par or better wins skins or make birdies double. I guarantee everyone will enjoy this game regardless of their skill level.
