Steve Scott – Olympian

Track and Field legend Steve Scott hosted several races at the 2011 Surf City Marathon in Huntington Beach, CA. Scott, the track coach at Cal State San Marcos, worked with Surf City officials and other fundraisers to collect donations that would help support the Free Wheelchair Mission. Scott is a three-time Olympian, and he set running records in the mile that have lasted over 25 years! Scott spoke with Nick Garner of www.sportstalk4kids.com, and he shared what it was like to qualify for the Olympics, but never receive the opportunity to compete on the big stage because of America’s political decision to boycott the Moscow Games in 1980. Later, Scott qualified and competed in the Los Angeles Games and the Seoul, South Korea. He talked about staying in the Olympic Village, Olympic travel, and the Olympic Opening Ceremonies. Scott is in the Track and Field Hall of Fame for his achievements on the track, but he’s equally well-known as the creator of Speed Golf, a game in which the athlete hits a shot and then runs after it to hit it again. Speed Golf combines two well-known sports and makes them uniquely competitive.
