Born in San Diego, California, Hoffman won the California state high school championship in 1994 and 1995, becoming the first two-time winner. He qualified three times for the Buick Invitational as an amateur.

In college, Hoffman was a member of the 1998 NCAA championship team at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He was an honorable mention All-American in the same year. While at UNLV, his teammates included Chris Riley, Chad Campbell, Bill Lunde, and Adam Scott. He graduated in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in communications and turned pro.

2021 Season

Sanderson Farms Championship: Held a share of the 18-hole lead at the Sanderson Farms Championship en route to a T6. Fell to 0-for-7 in his career with the 18-hole lead/co-lead.
2020 Season

Qualified for the FedExCup Playoffs, one of nine players to do so in each of the first 14 seasons of the FedExCup era, and finished the season No. 77 in the FedExCup standings. Recorded two top-10s, highlighted by a T7 at the Workday Charity Open, and made the cut in 11 of 20 starts.

2019 Season

Qualified for the FedExCup Playoffs, one of nine players to do so in each of the first 13 seasons of the FedExCup era. Ended the season No. 78 in the FedExCup standings. Earned two top-10s and made 13 cuts in 24 starts, finishing the season with a T77 at THE NORTHERN TRUST.

Valero Texas Open: Finished second at the Valero Texas Open following a final-round 67. Third-round 64, which included a birdie-birdie-birdie eagle finish, tied Ryan Moore (R3) and Kevin Streelman (R4) for low score of the week. Earned his 11th top-15 finish and 14th made cut in 14 starts at the event. Represented best result on the PGA TOUR since losing in a playoff at the 2017 RBC Canadian Open.
2018 Season

Qualified for the FedExCup Playoffs for the 12th straight year, one of just 10 players to do so. For the first time in his career, failed to advance past the second Playoffs event, ending his season at No. 79 in the standings. Did not post a top-10 for the first time in 13 seasons on the PGA TOUR.

Dell Technologies Championship: Was eliminated from the FedExCup Playoffs after a 74th-place finish at the Dell Technologies Championship. Ended his streak of qualifying for the BMW Championship every year of the Playoffs, one of only two players to have done so (Phil Mickelson).
Masters Tournament: Aced the 16th hole in the final round of the Masters Tournament for his first ace on TOUR and the 19th of the 2017-18 PGA TOUR Season. It was the 29th hole-in-one in tournament history and the 20th at No. 16. Final-round 67 secured a T12 result, his best finish of the season.
Hero World Challenge: Carried a five-stroke lead into the final round of the Hero World Challenge, but finished in second place behind champion Rickie Fowler, who closed with a course-record 11-under 61. After opening with a 3-under 69 to sit T8 in his first start at the event, stormed up the leaderboard with a second-round 9-under 63 to take a three-shot lead over Jordan Spieth and Tommy Fleetwood. Second round began with birdies on four of his first five holes and closed with five consecutive birdies for the 63, just one shy of what was then the course record. Added a 2-under 70 to take the third-round lead over Spieth and Rose. Closed with an even-par 72 for the runner-up finish, four strokes behind Fowler.
Shriners Hospitals for Children Open: Finished T18 in his hometown event at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. The result was significant because he donated his entire paycheck of $98,600 to the Direct Impact Fund via PGA TOUR Charities to support the victims of the Las Vegas shooting on October 1, 2017.
