Tsubasa Kajitani won the 2021 Augusta National Women’s Amateur in a playoff Saturday at Augusta National Golf Club.
Kajitani defeated Emilia Migliaccio on the first sudden-death playoff hole.
Kajitani shot even-par 72 in the final round, finishing the tournament at 1-over 217.
The 17-year-old from Ikayama, Japan, ranks 23rd among the world’s top amateurs.
Biography
Japan’s Tsubasa Kajitani, 17, was runner-up at the Avondale Amateur in Australia in late January 2020, finishing one stroke behind winner Grace Kim. She returned to tournament golf in mid-September 2020, making three appearances on the LPGA of Japan Tour.
Kajitani picked up one victory in the 2019 calendar year, a two-stroke win at the Japan Junior Championship. She had four other top-10 finishes in 2019, including runner-up at the Australian Women’s Amateur Championship, falling 3&2 to Koreas Yae Eun Hong in the 36-hole championship match.
Kajitani also finished T-9 at the 2019 Japan Women’s Open Golf Championship.
