Forearm rotation in golf swing: Bowed forearm for power!

In this video Terry is going to do his best to explain how the right forearm in the forearm rotation in golf swing works.

This is a follow up video to week #7 in the downswing for power and it has to deal with the bowed position in the forearm rotation in the golf swing. Now when we grab underneath the club handle you see how the right forearm bows on itself. Meaning that the two bones in the forearm now align themselves in a linear position ready to hit the ball with more force than if these bones open to the impact position. We have to think about this like we are trying to drive a nail into a piece of wood. We would want out two bones to bowed on top of each other to get more force.

Same with the golf swing except that we want this bowed position to a linear one as we come into impact from right to left as we would come from up and down with a hammer.

The amount of forward shaft lean in forearm rotation in golf swing depends on the amount of offset we have on the club we are hitting. For example a lob has more natural offset so there would be more forward shaft lean at set up.

When you turn your wrist after you grab underneath the golf club this locks in the right forearm for the bowed impact through the ball. The forward shaft lean also reinforces the bowed right forearm in the forearm rotation in the golf swing.

On the driver since there is no natural offset with this club all you have to do is grab underneath with NO turning of the wrist. Remember the turning of the wrist deals primarily with clubs that have some form of natural offset. For more info on forearm rotation in the golf swing go to our website at www.simpleswingthoughts.com
