Q.
What is the difference between the Committee blowing the siren with three short blasts and one long blast?
.
A.
It is common practice that the siren going off means the following:
Three short blasts – A normal stop, which means players can finish out the hole, or mark their ball and stop immediately.
One long blast – An immediate suspension of play due to imminent danger. A possible lightning strike or severe wind or rain is about to arrive, and players are not permitted to even hit their next stroke, but must take shelter.
Rule 5.7 and Section 8J
