How To Control Your Wedge Distance (EASY 1 Min Tip)

Have you ever looked at a professional caddie’s yardage book? If you have, you probably would have noticed that they don’t have just one yardage for each club, but 2,3 or even 4 for some. If you are ever impressed at how good PGA players are at distance control that’s the answer why. They know their exact yardages, with each swing and each club.

Understanding how far you hit it with different swings is very important to be able to choose the right club and swing for different pins and greens. You probably hit your full lob wedge similar distance to a 3/4 swing gap wedge but the ball doesn’t have the same flight.

Having options is key to be able to hit more greens in regulation and closer to the pin. Try this easy drill and your approach shots (and score) will improve really quick!

You can do this without a simulator if you don’t have access to one. Place sticks or something to mark yardages every 5 yards and use your best judgement to determine whether the ball landed on the front, middle or back of the 5 yards gap. It won’t be as accurate as using technology but it will still be very helpful.
