Know Your Face Angle

Hey Quite The Chap here for golfersRX. Do you know your face angle? Not this face. Your putter face. In today’s video.

Swing path is important but face angle is really important. According to Quintic Ball Roll, face Angle at IMPACT accounts for up to 90—92% of the start direction of the golf ball. 90% that’s a lot. Quintic Ball Roll says a putter face that is 2 degrees open at impact will miss the hole from 5 feet! For a putt to go in at 8 feet the angle of the face needs to less than 1 degree open or closed. We’re talking little fractions of degrees. So how do you know if your face angle is generally open or closed without all the fancy equipment…

Take your tee
Take some tape
Attach the tee to your putter face
make sure the tee is sitting flush on the face.
Make some swings along a straight line
– could be a string
– could be some tile
– or even some hardwood flooring
You should be able to tell where that putter face is pointing when it’s coming through impact.

Now you’re not going to be able to tell how open or closed your putter face is but it is going to give you an idea if your putter face is coming through impact open or closed.

The added bonus is that it’s also going to help you line up to your target properly. So that always helps when you want to sink putts. Aiming at your target. So I’ve heard.

Until next time, keep it simple.
