Trouts Fly Fishing Forecast | February 12th Edition

There are some frigid temperatures on the docket for the weekend, but if you’re willing to deal with the elements, fishing has been productive and chances are you’ll find some empty rivers. It’ll be a tailwater game, as a general rule, until the temperatures start to rise into next week.

While we’re all fans of winter fishing here at Trouts, there’s something refreshing about change coming on the horizon. February is the precursor to that change. Spring is around the corner, so stocking your boxes with patterns that will transition well as the days get longer would be encouraged. Get ready for big spring midges, blue-winged olives, and stoneflies to start and play a bigger and bigger role as we inch towards March. Work on depth control, mending, and rigging are all skills to hone during these colder months. Simplify your fly choice and get the flies down to the fish.
