How the design of your putter influences your stroke / from toe hang to face-balanced in 70 years!

Thank you for watching this Explanar Putting Mat instructional video. In this brief video, the mat’s inventor Luther Blacklock explains how the design of the putter has evolved over the past 100 years or so. Many decades ago, putters were designed with toe hang. In other words, the toe of the putter hung straight down when the club was balanced on your finger. Over the years, the design of the putter has evolved to make them more forgiving. Many putters now are what is known as ‘face-balanced’. If you balance the putter on your finger, the face will point upwards to the sky. If you have an arc in your putting stroke, the weighting of the toe hang putter will automatically encourage you to move the putter to the inside on the backswing and again to the inside in the follow-through. On the other hand, if you have a face-balanced putter, it is more difficult to rotate the face during the stroke.
