Kilspindie: Story of a Golf Club

Nestled down a single track road, in the village of Aberlady; sits Kilspindie Golf Club. Often overlooked by visitors drawn to its bigger neighbors such as Muirfield, or North Berwick, however Kilspindie enjoys a rich history on Scotland’s Golf Coast. It was originally known as Luffness Golf Club, until a change in site and fragmentation of the club saw Kilspindie and Luffness set up separately of each other, only a few miles apart and still to this day, they enjoy a time honored tradition.

Kilspindie is not long, and it is quirky, however as a par 69 we believe it is a perfect matchplay course with changeable conditions and many half-par holes providing excitement for the golfer as you seek to outwit your opposition, instead of obsessing over stroke play scores, and its opening stretch across the Aberlady Bay (famously the first nature reserve in the UK in 1952), are some of the most stunning you will play.

The club rents hickory equipment on site, and with a time0worn wall flanking the closing holes and more recently established Craigielaw next-door, you get a real sense for the history Kilspindie has enjoyed in its lifetime, and the course itself is proof that not all golf courses need to be 7,000 yards to be enjoyable, or that good courses should seek to maximise their standard scratch! Kilspindie is the quintessential Scottish members club, and more visitors would benefit from making time to play it on their travels!
