A.
They may play a provisional ball under Rule 18.3. This provisional ball does not become the ball in play unless:
The original ball cannot be found within 3 minutes of searching starting a search; or
The provisional ball is played at from a spot nearer the hole than where the original ball is thought to be (this is before it is found).
