Titleist Tips: The Release Chip Shot

There’s an old axiom in golf that says ‘When you can putt the ball, putt it. When you can’t putt it, chip it. And when you can’t chip it, pitch it.” The idea behind this advice is that it’s easier to roll the ball close to the hole than it is to fly the ball close.

The less frequently you’re able to play, the more helpful this idea can be. Unless you’re working on your pitching and lob shots every day, the higher percentage play is usually your best bet.

So, how exactly do you execute a chip shot that rolls more than it flies? There are a few simple keys to follow and, fortunately for us, Titleist staff member Michael Breed shares them all in this video.

So the next time you’re faced with a shot where you have a lot of green to work with, play the odds and give Michael’s Release Chip a try. More times than not, you’ll have an easy putt for your next shot.
