Low Golf Shots – How To Hit a Punch Shot

Low Shots – Golf lesson and golf tips on how to hit low shots, otherwise known as punch shots.

► Punch Shot Tips – Video Golf Lesson Summary

You may find yourself in situations from time to time that require you to hit a shot that travels much lower than usual. This can happen when you are faced with low hanging branches that find their way in the normal ball trajectory, for example. Being able to hit a punch shot can be quite useful in those instances.

In order to set up for a punch shot, you will need to take more clubs than normally required. The lower loft will help keep the ball low.

The ball position should be back of center. You will want your stance to be open slightly and your feet closer to another than normal. An open stance will counter the ball back position and will protect you against sending the ball to the right of the target.

You will want to grip down on the club in order to be able to assert more control over the ball. Your hands should be well forward and your body weight towards your left foot.

The swing proper should be controlled and the follow through should be kept low.

Finally, because the shot is lower and with a lower lofted – longer – club you can expect the ball to roll some distance.
