CONSERVATIVE VS AGGRESSIVE- which is best + lessons learned

Do you sometimes wonder if you should pull out the driver on that short par 4 or the long par 5 that’s most likely a 3 shot hole anyways? Where does it make sense to take risks on the course? When should you play the safe shot and layup? Take a look and see if the right move is to be aggressive or if it leads to lower scores to play the conservative, smart shot off the tee and/or layup.

I played 4 holes where I hit 2 balls on each hole- 1 conservative shot and 1 aggressive shot! Every tee shot will be a driver for the aggressive play and an iron off the tee on all but the par 5 for the conservative.

Some holes it makes sense to try and go for the green because there is limited danger and the reward outweighs the risk. Other times, being too aggressive can get you in trouble because you hit it through the fairway, in the thick rough, behind a tree, etc. and it can lead to a big number on the scorecard.

But conservative play isn’t great all the time either. Being too far back from the green for your approach shot means a longer shot in and we are less accurate the further we have to hit the ball. This leads to more scrambling around the green and less birdie putts.

When it comes down to hit, it’s fun to hit the ball far but it’s also fun to score low. If you can do both then you’re set up for a great day on the course! So whether you play aggressive or conservative, be sure to have a short game to go with it because chipping and putting will help you go low more than anything else!
