The Golf Downswing: How gravity is your friend! week#7

In this video on the golf downswing we are going focus on the two bones in your trail forearm that work with the loft of the club and give you power in the golf swing.

The first we have to realize about these bones is the fact that they can be open or bowed in the position of the golf swing. We are going to focus on how we have been taught verses how we need to grip the club. The way we have been taught to grip the club does put the V of our trail hand over our trail shoulder, however this will not give us the leverage we need to hit a solid golf shot. The golf downswing requires leverage into the ball.

The first thing we need to do is grab underneath the golf club handle and turn our wrists to engage the right forearm in conjuction with the loft of the club.

What we are going to do now is take a look at some of the pros, both past and present, and see how the use the right forearm in the golf downswing. The first pro up is Ben Hogan and what we see from Mr Hogan is his right bowed forearm as he come into impact. Now we have to understand the difference between open and bowed to get the sense of how to hit the golf ball with effortless power.

On the golf downswing the head position behind the ball sets the weight transfer as you pull down with your arms like your pulling down on a chain or a hammer.

Now as we look at Ben Hogan there seems to a sway forward into the ball, you can do that as long as your head stays behind the ball. Swaying forward is not bad, its the swaying back on the backswing that is not good. You want your trail shoulder to say below your lead shoulder as you come into impact. Again its your position that controls all these movements.

Your feet stay grounded as you come into impact because on the golf downswing you get your power from the ground up not from your hips down like many golf pros teach.

As we look at Ernie Else golf downswing he is getting all his energy from the ground as he pulls down with his arms.

We are going to look at Tiger Woods and here again the pulling down of the arms as the hips clear because the head is regulating all he body weight shift. Tigers golf downswing is similar to the other PGA pros on tour.

This is it. The two bones in the trail forearm is the basis for the entire golf downswing and the “2/6″golfer network. For more info on this swing process go to www.simpleswingthoughts.com
